On behalf of our client, NGE-TFT is therefore requesting a permit be issued for a septic system to serve the new home. In this submittal, some of the locations and slopes on the lot have been slightly changed based on new information available from the site survey and brush clearing. The available MOA topography is reasonable along the western edge of the property but does not accurately reflect the existing topography near the northeast corner of the property. Figure 1 presents the site topography with the general contour line shown for the north east corner. The subdivision is served by a Class A Well/private water system and water service is currently available in the street near the lot (see attached drawing of the subdivision plat with the water line sketched in. Note that no other drawings exist for the community water system). Attached is a site plan with backup documentation displaying the configuration of the proposed septic system as well as an alternative site (see Figure 2). No setback conflicts exist between the 11301 Olive Lane Anchorage, Alaska 99515 • Phone: (907) 344-5934 • fax: (907) 344-5933 • Email: kmobley@nge-tft,com Lot 6, Block 1, DeArmoun Subdivision No. 2 3330-13 Sean & Lisa McCallister July 2013 new septic system and the Class A Well. The general drainage pattern shown on the drawings (Figure 1) will not be changed as a result of the proposed improvements. During exploration of the site, a six foot by six foot abandoned crib was found on the lot. As the crib existed within the footprint of the proposed building, there are no separation conflicts between the old crib and the new septic fields. The crib has been completely removed. No additional components of any previous systems have been discovered. On May 24, July 4, and July 18, 2013, representatives from NGE-TFT met with an excavator operator to advance test holes on the lot and conduct percolation testing on the soils in the area of the absorption trenches and alternate site. The approximate locations of the test pits are shown on Figure 2 and on the attached test pit logs. These locations were not surveyed and as such are approximate. These test holes indicate that the site is overlain with approximately one to two feet of organic silt with gravel which is subsequently underlain by a poorly -graded sand with and gravel (SP -SM) to a depth of 5 to 7 feet below ground surface (bgs). Below the sand and gravel is silty sand and gravel that extends to at least 16 feet below the surface. The percolation rates obtained are as follows: Test hole 1 18 minutes per inch Test hole 2 60 minutes per inch Test hole 3 0.4 minutes per inch Test hole 4 2.1 minutes per inch Representative soil layer 3 ft to 6 ft Representative soil layer 4 ft to 14 ft Representative soil layer 2 ft to 7 ft Representative soil layer 4 ft to 15 ft In Test hole 3, all of the soils within the representative layer were observed to be sand (smaller than #4 sieve) with some gravel and a trace of silt. The sand content was estimated to exceed 70% of the soil mass. No groundwater was observed during the excavation of the test holes. However, groundwater was recorded during the monitoring period (seven days after test pit excavation) at a depth of 9.5 feet bgs in test pit 1. Since the groundwater was measured in May, it can assumed that this recording is the seasonally high groundwater. We are proposing to place a new 2,000 -gallon S.T.E.P septic tank with a pressurized discharge system. The ground surface of the lot (in the area of the septic system) slopes down to the west and north at a shallow grade. The effluent disposal field proposed consists of a deep trench system and a similar system for a backup. An advanced wastewater system could also be used for the backup system, however the Page 2 of 3 Lot 6, Block 1, DeArmoun Subdivision No. 2 3330-13 Sean & Lisa McCallister July 2013 design for this has not been done. Locations of the main and the backup deep trench system are shown on Figure 2. The size of each system was determined by the percolation rates of the test pits within the footprint of each system. Both the main and backup system have more than one percolation rate and as such a weighted average percolation rate was used. The calculations are presented on the attached calculation page. Setback requirements from current wells are shown on Figure 4. Current setback requirements between septic systems are controlled by property lines and as such no septic system can impact a septic system on an adjacent property. If the system is constructed in accordance with our design, the following statements will apply: 1. The system will have no adverse impact on the wells in the area. Future wells are not anticipated and will need to conform to setbacks from this installed and other installed septic systems. 2. The system will have no adverse impact on existing septic systems in the area. Future septic systems that comply with current setback requirements will not impact the current setback requirements on this installed system. 3. The system will have no adverse impact on reserve space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area. 4. The system will have no adverse impact on drainage patterns in the area. The current drainage pattern will be maintained. Based on the information presented in this letter, NGE-TFT requests that the MOA grant a septic permit to Lot 6, Block 1, of the DeArmoun Subdivision, No. 2. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments you may have concerning the information presented in this letter. Sincerely, Northern Geotechnical Engineering, Inc. d. b. a.
