3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer must notify the Development Services
Department at least 2 hours prior to each inspection. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24 hours).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather must either:
A. Open and Close on the same day.
B. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing.

Ref: Proposed Initial Septic System & Private Well for Eklutna Heights Subdivision;
Block 1, Lot 10A (West Portion)
To whom it may concern:
The subject lot is currently vacant and has no water or sewer service. The owner is planning to
build a four (4) bedroom duplex on the property that will be served by a septic system and well.
We are proposing that a 1250 gallon septic tank and a deep trench type drainfield be installed.
A test hole was excavated on the property. The drainfield is designed around the 30 foot radius
of this test hole. We are also proposing to have a well drilled on-site to serve the proposed
duplex. Attached is a site plan showing neighboring lots and separation distances from the
proposed well. All necessary waivers have been approved by ADEC (see attached). Comments
regarding the design are summarized as follows: We are unaware of any adverse impacts that
the well and septic would have on any neighboring wells or septic systems.
'1. SOILS: See the attached logs which show the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring,
and the percolation test results.
2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications.
3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed septic
system.
4. TOPOGRAPHY: The average topography in the vicinity of the drainfield is relatively flat.
We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic

On December 19, 2012 this office received two separation distance waiver requests associated with the
proposed septic system located on Lot 10A West, Block 1, Eldutna Heights Subdivieion. The construction of
a new septic system on Lot 10A (serving a duplex) cannot be completed without encroaching on the t~quired
separation distances of two Class C well~ located on adjacent lots. Information was provided on the
adjoining eZlo~s C wells to allow the assessment of the potential risk posed by the septic system on Lot 10A.
Howevex, insufficient information on lot development on LOt 9A or Lot llA was provided to support the
approval of any other aspects, including any other needed Waivers, a~sociated with these wells. Nor was may
approval associated with these adjoining Class C wells requested.
Waiver Condition~ and Determination
Based on an evaluation of the available information, the potential for contamination due to the lesser
sepax'afion distance between the Class C wells and the septic system does not appeax to be significant.
Separation distance waivers between the wells and septic system on Lot 10A axe summarized below:

The separation distance reqmred by regulation is 150 feet. The sepaxafion distance t'equested and approved is
100 feet.
1. Although there was no indication of well grouting on the well log submitted for Lot 9A, the well
shows a depth of 155 feet and a confining layer of silt and clay that may mitigate potential
contamination.
2. Lab results on water taken from the well on Lot 9A show nitrates present, but below the MCL level
0.68 mg/L present, a maximum of 10 mg/L allowed).
