Box 196650 Anchorage, AK 99519 RE: Roseberry Park Estates, Block 2, Lot 1 Subject: Permit Request — Design Narrative Dear Mr. Crewdson: The owner of the above referenced property has requested that the septic system be designed for two additional bedrooms, for a total of seven bedrooms. This document updates our previous design and provides additional relevant data and information. Soils Previous soils work indicated very porous receiving soils. Discussion with Mark Hansen, P.E., Geotechnical Engineer, indicated he has seen these soils' percolation rate slow down if one were to keep after it. Furthermore, we conducted our percolation test at a deeper location than our previous tests. Two test holes were dug on June 10, 2014 and logged by Lynn Jones, E.I.T., Alaska Rim Engineering, Inc. Test hole 610A was dug to a depth of 18 -feet and test hole 610B was dug to a depth of 20 -feet. On June 25, 2014, the monitoring tubes were checked and found to be dry. During the excavation of the test holes, it was noted that the trench side wall held up and didn't slough. Percolation Test With encouragement from Mark Hansen, we came prepared to soak the test holes. Initially, the percolation test holes percolated faster than 1 -minute per inch. We noticed on subsequent filling the percolation began to slow down; as we monitored each successive filling during the presoak period the percolation rate slow down. At the 4 -hour mark the perk remain consistent at 1.67 minutes per inch Unfortunately, percolation test hole 610B did not perform as well. After continuous pre-soaking the 6 - inches of water would drain our in approximately 4 -minutes, which is faster than 1 -minute per inch. Previous soil work indicated percolation rates faster than 1 -minute per inch. For this investigation, we went deeper with our percolation test hole. Typically, receiving soils become denser with depth. This proved true for percolation test hole 610A, which this design is based on. Coi ALASKA RIM ENGINEERING, INC Roseberry Park Estates, Block 2. Lot 4 Charles A. Leet Topography The topography presented of the lot was recently shot by Jeff Gastaldi, PLS. The area around the septic field is basically flat with drainage to the southwest. The trench will be constructed parallel with the contour of the slope in conformance with municipal requirement. Drain Field Design The proposed dwelling is seven bedrooms, with a daily flow of 1050 gallons. The prescribed application rate is 1.2 gallons/ft. The required area is 875ft2. We are proposing a 10 -foot effective depth deep trench that is 44 -feet in length for a total of HOW. Replacement System We have sited the replacement trench in a location where a bull run valve could be installed. Certainly, as a last resort, an advance treatment system could be installed. Surrounding Properties There are no water wells within 100 feet of the proposed septic system. There are no septic systems within 100 feet of the proposed well. This property and its neighboring lots are served by private wells. Tract A-2, Brendlwood Subdivision is the home of AW WU Eagle River water storage tanks. Surface Waters There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed system. The drainage arrows are shown on the site plan showing the grade and the general direction of the surface runoff. We do not anticipate any adverse effects on the neighboring, septic systems, reserve areas or drainage patterns by the installation of the proposed wells and septic system.
