SUBJECT: SEPTIC SYSTEM DESIGN AND PERMIT APPLICATION FOR
CREEKVIEW ESTATES TRACT A, ANCHORAGE, ALASKA
To Whom It May Concern,
Our client intends to construct a four-bedroom home on Creekview Estates Tract A. The lot is
currently undeveloped and vegetated with brushes and trees. On behalf of our client, NGE-TFT
is therefore requesting a permit be issued for a septic system to serve the new home. Figure 1
presents the site topography with the general topography line (provided by client). The
subdivision is planned to be served by a single family water disposal system which would be
installed onsite.
Figure 2 indicates site plan with backup documentation displaying the configuration of the
proposed septic system as well as an alternative site. No setback conflicts exist between the new
septic system and the single family water supply.
Prior to our work, the area had about 10 percolation tests performed. This data indicated the best
area was a small ridge to the west of an indistinct swale. Once the property was sold as a single
site (a nine lot subdivision was proposed previously), the remainder percolation tests were not
required.
On April 10, 2014, representatives from NGE-TFT met with an excavator operator to advance
two test holes, designated TP1 and TP2, on the proposed septic system footprint. Percolation
testing was conducted on the soils in the area of the absorption trenches and alternate site. The
approximate locations of the test pits are shown on Figure 2 and on the attached test pit logs.

These locations were not surveyed and as such are approximate. TP1 is overlain with
approximately seven feet of well-graded sand with gravel which is subsequently underlain by
well-graded sand with gravel and some silt to at least 15 feet below ground surface. TP 2 is
overlain with sand with gravel and some silt to depth of the exploration. The percolation rates
obtained are as follows:
TP1 (Primary) 0.46 minutes per inch
TP2 (Secondary) 13.7 minutes per inch
Representative soil layer 5.25 to 6.25 feet
Representative soil layer 4.25 to 5.25 feet
A gradation in TP 1 was performed to acquire sand fiker waiver.
Test holes #559 (percolation rate 30 minutes per inch) and #568 (percolation rate 7.5 minutes per
inch) conducted for the previously proposed subdivision are located within 30 feet o£TP2. Thus,
percolation rate 30 minutes per inch were used for secondary field design as shown in Figures
l&2.
Groundwater was not encountered in TP1, while it was encountered in TP2 at 12 feet bgs during
the exploration and was recorded on May 2, 2014 at a depth of 10 feet bgs. Groundwater was
recorded at 8 feet bgs on November 27, 2007 in Test hole #568, and it is considered as high
groundwater for secondary field.
We are proposing to place a new 1,500-gallon S.T.E.P septic tank with a pressurized discharge
system for primary field. The pressurized system is needed to life the effluent to the disposal
field. The profile of the discharge pipe is shown in Figure 4. An advanced wastewater system is
proposed for the backup system. Locations of the main and the backup trench system are shown
on Figure 2. The size of each system was determined by the percolation rates of the test pits
within the footprint of each system.
If the system is constructed in accordance with our design, the following statements will apply:
1. The system will conform to setback from proposed single family well in the area.
2. The system will comply with setback requirements from property lines.
3. The system will have no adverse impact on reserve space, either surface or subsurface, on
any lots located in the area.
4. The system will have no adverse impact on drainage patterns in the area.
