To whom it may concern, The subject property is served by a community well and a private septic system consisting of a 1000 gallon septic system and a trench type drainfield. The septic system is in a state of failure and needs to be upgraded. Per the owner's request, we are proposing to install a 4 bedroom septic system consisting of a 1500 gallon STEP tank and a dual trench type drainfield. Design comments are summarized as follows: SOIL CONDITIONS: See the attached soil log and sieve analysis which shows the soil classification, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. A sieve analysis was performed on the soil and was found to be an SM, Silty Sand w/ Gravel. Although the soil perked at a rate of less than 1 minute per inch, we believe the insitu SM soils will negate the need for a sand filter. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed septic upgrade. TOPOGRAPHY: The topography in the area of the proposed upgrade is relatively flat. In short, there are no slope concerns. LOT LINE WAIVER REQUEST: Due to site constraints, we are requesting that you waive the distance from drainfield to the west lot line to 5 feet. The lot line is adjacent to the roadway and therefore poses no encroachment concerns. I am unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on any surrounding wells or septic systems. The existing septic tank will be abandoned in place and in accordance with municipal standards. On May 16, 2001 we dug one testhole for the proposed system. The results of this test are attached. The general slope of this lot is flat. We have designed our system utilizing the testhole we excavated for the 3 -bedroom house. The lot is served by an class A well, ADEC#211936. We propose to install a 5' wide deep trench. Water was not encountered during the excavation or monitoring. There are no public or private wells within 200' of our proposed system location except as noted.
