The proposed system is designed for a 3 -bedroom single-family residence. The existing system is undocumented and the owner would like to upgrade it. A soils log, design calculations, a site plan, design drawings and construction specifications are enclosed for your review. Design Calcs: Groundwater was observed at a depth of 15 feet below ground surface (Oct. 6, 2011) Soil Rating. From Testhole (6/22/11) <t min/in =1.0 gal per sq.ft./day No. of Bedrooms 3 Required Area per Bedroom: 150/ 1.0 =150 sq.ft. Total area required: 150 x 3 = 450 sgft System: The proposed system consists of a 1250 gallon STEP tank and a shallow trench absorption field. The absorption field will consist of 3 trenches 30 feet long, 5 feet wide with 2 feet of filter sand and 0.5 foot (450 sq.ft. effective) of sewer rock. Soils: A test hole was excavated on June 22, 2011. See the attached soil logs. Ground water was monitored for through Oct. 6"', 2011. Ground water was observed at 16 feet on the day of excavation and at 15 feet below the ground surface on Oct. 6"'. Surface Water: No surface waters were observed within one hundred feet of the proposed septic system upgrade. Topography: The lot slopes to the west at approximately 10 %. The area of the proposed absorption is generally level over the length of each trench.
