BOX 240773 ANCHORAGE, AK 99524 522-7773 677-7766 {FAX) May 26, 2011 Municipality of Anchorage Building Safety Division On Site Water and Wastewater Program 4700 Elmore Street Anchorage, AK 99507 Attention: Debbie Wockenfuss Su~e~: Lots 1 through 9, LeDoux Subdivision, S-11849-1 Water Availability Study Dear Debbie: The proposed LeDoux Subdivision is surrounded by the AVVVVU water system on the north and on the west. Lots 1 and 2 through 5 will be served by AWVVU. Lots 6 through 9 will have on site private wells. A private well is currently in use on Lot 1 which was originally placed in February of 1973. This well will be abandoned in accordance with ADEC requirements and a new water service extended from the 8" DIP water main in Birch Lane. All of the lots in proposed LeDoux Subdivision and all lots in the area are served by the AWWU sewer system. We have collected information on several wells in the area of the proposed LeDoux Subdivision to estimate the possible depths and production rates of wells to be constructed in the future. Field investigations indicate a combination of wells constructed without the presence of bedrock and primarily in sand and gravel formations. The wells to the west were found to be less than 200' and those to the west in excess of 200' and as deep at 401'. The wells located on Lot 1 and Lot 5, Lydale Subdivision to the west are 167' and 169' deep respectively. In both cases gravel and sand formations were encountered to the aquifer. No bedrock was present. Water production rates in these wells are between 6.8 and 10.0 gallons per minute. The wells on lots to the east are deeper and produce lower volumes of water. Production rates vary from 3.0 to 4.2 gallons per minute. Lots 1 - 9, LeDoux Subdivision May 26, 2011 Page 2 Eaglewood Subdivision is located to the south of the proposed LeDoux Subdivision. is served by the AWVVU Water System. A breakdown of the wells in the area with their respective production rates follows: LOTS 1 - 9, LEDOUX SUBDIVISION WATER AVAILABILITY STUDY It WELL LEGAL DESCRIPTION DEPTH BEDROCK DEPTH PRODUCTION Lydale, Lot 5 169' None 10.0 GPM (Log) LeDoux, Lot 1 167' None 6.8 GPM (Log) Eagle Crest No. 1, Block B, Lot 43 401' None 3.0 GPM (Log) Eagle Crest No. 1, Block B, Lot 44 >217' None 4.2 GPM (Test) Surface water in the form of Eagle River runs parallel to the new subdivision a distance of less than 1 mile to the south. The presence of Eagle River and the watershed area surrounding the Eagle River area contributes to the aquifer apparently serving the area. Runoff from the mountains surrounding the area is noted year round constantly replenishing the aquifer. It is obvious from our study that the wells to be constructed on Lots 6 through 9 in the future will be placed to depths of less than 300' and will probably be founded in loose gravel formations. Wells on Lots 8 and 9 may be deeper and up to 400'. No bedrock should be encountered as no evidence of bedrock was noted in the area or on any of the well logs collected for this study. The production rates will be sufficient to support a four bedroom home and can be expected to be between 3 and 5 gallons per minute. Sincerely, Michael E. Anderson, P.E.
