The new absorption trench is designed for placement near the northern lot line as far away as possible from Rabbit Creek. The trench is 70' and the septic tank is approximately 59' from Rabbit Creek. A waiver is therefore necessary from the 100' setback required by Municipal Ordinance. We are proposing to construct a berm to the south of the STEP tank and absorption trench to insure any overflow of septic effluent will travel a minimum of 100' prior to discharge into Rabbit Creek. It is unlikely the septic system will overflow, but the berm will insure no contamination can occur to Rabbit Creek. We are therefore requesting a permit be issued for the construction of a new septic system to accommodate the home. The attached Site Plan and backup documentation identify the location and configuration of the proposed septic system along with the existing system. The existing septic tank and absorption pit will be decommissioned in accordance with Municipal Code. No existing wells are closer than 100' from the proposed system. Drainage arrows are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow on the lot. The drainage pattern will not be changed as a result of this project. Both the STEP tank and absorption trench will be less than 100' from Rabbit Creek. A drainage berm system has been designed to insure that any overland flow of septic effluent will travel a minimum of 100' before it can enter Rabbit Creek. The berm is shown on the Site Plan along with a construction detail. The area available for a septic system on this lot is limited by the location of the existing well and Rabbit Creek to the south. The test hole placed on the lot in the area of the proposed absorption trench indicated gravel with sand and silt (GM/GW). The percolation rate of the soil was determined to be 2.0 minutes per inch. Groundwater was found during the placement of the test hole at 9' and remained at that location during the monitoring period. An application rate of 1.2 gallons per day per square foot was used in the design of the absorption system. We are proposing to place a new 1,250 -gallon STEP tank and a 44' long by 5' wide by 3' effective depth absorption trench to treat and dispose of the effluent generated in the house. The elevation of the distribution line in the absorption trench will be 1' below the surface and the total depth will be 4'. A minimum of 3' of fill or 2" of insulation and 2' of fill will be placed over the Lot 1, Block 1, Rabbit Creek Subdivision No. 2 September 29, 2015 Page Two absorption trench and 4' over the STEP tank. The ground surface on the lot in the area of the absorption trench -slopes to the south and west at a grade approximating 2%. The new trench will be constructed parallel with the contours of the slope as much as possible in conformance with Municipal requirements. The new septic system will be constructed a minimum of 100' from all wells and any surface water and 10' from the proposed and existing water services in the area. If the system is constructed in accordance with our design the following statements apply: 1. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on the wells in the area or those to be constructed in the future. 2. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on existing septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future. 3. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on reserve space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area. 4.
