We are therefore requesting a permit be issued for the upgrade of the septic system to accommodate the four-bedroom home on the lot. The attached Site Plan and backup documentation identify the location and configuration of the existing and proposed septic system. The existing Septic Tank will be uncovered, inspected and verified suitable for continued use. A new tank will be placed if required and the existing tank decommissioned in accordance with Municipal Code. The existing absorption pit and trench will be decommissioned in accordance with Municipal Code. Also identified on the plans are the locations of the existing water service on this lot and adjacent septic systems. The subdivision is served by the AWWU water system. No conflicts exist between the proposed septic system and the wells or water services on this or adjacent lots. Drainage arrows are shown indicating the current drainage patterns. The ground surface in the area of the proposed trench is virtually flat. The drainage patterns will be maintained after construction. The test hole placed on the lot indicated Silty Gravel with Sand (GM/SM) in the absorption zone of the trench. The percolation rate was determined to be between 6 and 15 minutes per inch. No groundwater was encountered during the placement of the test hole and none has developed to date. We have designed the new trench with an application rate of .8 gallons per day per square foot. We are proposing to place a 50' long trench by 3' wide with an 8' effective depth. The total depth of the system will be 11.5' with the distribution line at 3.5' below the existing surface, change order will be drafted and submitted for approval. Lot 7A, Block 4, Timberlane Park #1 May 24, 2015 Page Two The ground surface on.the lot in the area of the new trench is flat. The trench will be placed parallel to the contours of the ground as much as possible and in conformance with design criteria. A minimum of 100' will be maintained between all components of the septic system and the proposed well and from any surface water in the area. If the system is constructed in accordance with our design the following statements apply: The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on the wells in the area or those to be constructed in the future. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on existing septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on reserve space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on drainage patterns in the area. The current drainage pattern will be maintained. Sincerely, Michael E. Anderson, P.E. The existing absorption trench on the lot has failed. It is much closer to the slope greater than 25% and no evidence of bleeding out of the slope is evident. Anchorage, Alaska Subject: Soil Investigation for Sanitary Sewer System, Lot 7, Block Timberlane Subdivision, Anchorage, Alaska Dear Mr. Fladgard: At your request of December 26, 1978, we conducted a subsurface soils inves- tigation at the proposed location of the sanitary sewer system on the subject lot. The investigation complied with those procedures required by the Municipality of Anchorage Department of Health and Enviromnental Protection. This investigation, which was accomplished on December 27, 1978, consisted of a test hole drilled to a depth of 20 feet below the existing ground surface. The test hole was sited according to your instructions and its location is shown in attached Drawing A-O]. Drilling was accomplished with a rotary drill rig using continuous flight solid-stem with an outside diameter of 5 inches. A sample was taken taken at the depths shown on the soils log in Drawing A-01. The sample will be held in storage at our lab for approxi- mately six months. In addition, all material brought to the surface by the angers was continuously monitored by an experienced engineering geologist. The topography at the drilling site is generally horizontal. At the time of the investigation the site had been stripped. The top of the test hole was located at original ground surface. The soils encountered in the bore hole are shown in the test hole log in Drawing A-01. This log displays specific conditions encountered at the test location. However, subsurface conditions may vary in other parts of the lot without any apparent surficiat evidence of the change. Groundwater was not encountered and bedrock was not encountered. At the time the hole was drilled seasonal frost was present from the surface to a depth of 3 inches and permafrost was not encountered. A percolation test was performed within the bore hole at the depth shown in the attached Table 1. All depths were measured from the top of the hole. The data in Table 1 show average infiltration from the depths indicated to the bottom of the hole. The measured percolation rate was 3.3 minutes per inch. International Airport Road Anchorage, Alaska 99502 Attention: Denny O'Day RE: Adequacy Test on Existing Sanitary, Sewer System; Lot 7, Block 4, Timberlane Subdivision, Anchorage, Alaska Dear Mr. O'Day: Per your request of December 19, 1978, we conducted a test of the sanitary sewer system on the above described property. During the test the liquid level in the seepage pit was monitored as 1000 gallons were removed and 700 gallons were pumped back into the seepage pit to the inlet level. All liquid levels were measured below the top of the standpipe and are shown in the following table: Initial Liquid Second Water Third 24-Hour Total Reading Removed Reading Added Reading Reading Drop (Gallons) (Gallons) 5' 1000 6.7" 700 5.5' 5°6' .1' The average specific capacity is 48.8 gallons per inch based on two sets of readings showing 49.0 and 48.6 gallons per inch. After twenty four hours the liquid level was measured again at 5.6 feet. It had dropped .1 feet or 1.2 inches. This indicates an average effluent acceptance rate of 58.56 gallons per day for the surrounding soils. If the 4 bedroom residence on the property is to house 8 people, the average load on the system can be expected to be 600 gallons per day. We can therefore con- clude that the system is not disposing of effluent at an adequate rate for a 4 bedroom residence. We appreciate this opportunity to be of ~ervice to you° Please contact us if you have any questions regarding this letter or if we can be of additional service to you.
