WELL AND SEPTIC SYSTEM APPLICATION NARRATIVE
LEGAL: Mile Hi Subdivision Addition No. '1, Block t~1, Lot 1
IMPACTS TO ADJACENT PROPERTIES
The location and design of this wastewater system is expected to have no impact on adjacent
properties. There are no wells or surface waters within 100 feet of this proposed design.
Neighboring systems and wells are shown on the plot plan drawings. The design location causes
no negative impact on reserve areas on neighboring lots. There are no known curtain drains.
TOPOGRAPHY
Mile Hi Subdivision Addition No. 1, consists of single family homes and undeveloped lots with rural
zoning (R-6) located high upslope north of Eagle River Road in Eagle River. Lot 1 slopes
generally south from approximately 25% to 40% on the west half of the lot. The subdivision is
developed with electricity, phone, and natural gas.
LOCAL WATER LEVEL
One 15.5 feet and one 21 feet deep soils-investigation test pits (TP1 and TP2) were dug on site
between October 17 and October 20, 2015; a standpipe was inserted in each pit to the excavated
depth for monitoring ground water. The pits were dry at the time of excavation. TP1 and TP2
locations are shown on site plans.
The standpipes were sounded for ground water a week later on October 27. The standpipes were
dry; no water was sounded.
PERCOLATION TESTS AND SOILS
The soil immediately underlying the one-foot thick surface organic and topsoil layer to a depth of 5
feet below ground surface (BGS) consists of brown silty sand, classified as SM. The underlying
soil layer to attained depths shown on soil and percolation logs was found everywhere to consist
of brown to gray silty sand with gravel and occasional cobbles and boulders. Soil layer classified
SM/GM TP1 and a subsequent adjacent test pit (TP1B--no test sheet) were both terminated due
to refusal by boulders and both at 15.5 feet BGS. TP2 was excavated to a depth of 21 feet BGS.
Test pits 1 and 2, sheets (TP1 and TP2), are attached.
Four falling head percolation tests were performed in accordance with Alaska DEC specifications
in the holes indicated on the attached sheets. All soils in the SM/GM formation percolated in the 6
to 15 minutes per inch (MPI) range or greater than 5 mpi. Pemolation test holes 1 through 4
record sheets (TH1, TH2, TH3, TH4) are also attached.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR ON-SITE SEPTIC SYSTEM
LEGAL:

A. GENERAL
1. The well and septic plans are for a single-family residence.
2. The site plan and profile drawings shall be a part of this specification.
3. All materials and workmanship shall meet the Anchorage Department of Health and State
Department of Environmental Conservation requirements.
4. All soil tests are advisory to the design, and the engineer may modify the design in the field if
soil conditions are found to vary unfavorably from investigated soils.
5. It is the responsibility of the owner to obtain all necessary permits or easements and to locate
any adjacent multi-family wells.
6. The excavation is to be exactly in the area shown on the site plan and meet specified
elevations; any deviation requires engineer approval.
7. Any remaining open test hole excavations shall be filled.
8. Anchorage Municipal Code requires 2" minimum insulation cover over septic system before
backfilling.
B. SEPTIC TANK
1. Septic tank shall be 1000 gallon and meet MOA Standards and Specifications.
C. 5-WIDE DRAINFIELD
1. The trench is to maintain uniform bottom elevation throughout entire length.
2. The depth of the trench excavation is to match elevations in design drawings.
3. The effluent line within the trenches shall be laid level within 0.03'.
4. The sewer rock is to be covered with typar fabric material.
5. Soil or combination of soil and extruded board insulation to a depth of 3' or equivalent is to be
placed over the wide trenches. Minimum 2" insulation and 24" soil are required.
6. The area over the trenches is to be finish-graded to prevent ponding of surface water runoff.
7. The septic tank and leachfield must not be closer than 100' to any existing private well, 150' to
any Class "C" well or 200 feet to any community well.
