Pannone, Principal Registered Professional Engineer E-mail: steve(opanengak.com 27 July 2016 Subject: SAND LAKE #2 B1 L16 Septic Upgrade Perm1 it Design Narrative This is a design narrative for a permit to install an upgrade 10008 Septic Tank and absorption field to be issued forth is property. The existing 1000g tank is at the end of its life and the pumper has recommended replacement. Currently the lot is developed. The proposed system will utilize a replacement 1000g septic tank and an upgrade drain field. This lot and the surrounding lots are served by combination of Class "C" wells and private wells. The private well for this property Is within 100' of the proposed tank (see Waivers). Due to the size of the lot and the location of the existing well no other options are available. There are no other wells within 100' of the system. 1. Soils. The subject property is part of a developed subdivision. A test hole was excavated by S.D. Shrader in October of 1978 with a resulting percolation rate of 5mpi and a depth of 19'. There is no record of the location of the test hole but it can be assumed it was in the vicinity of the existing drain field. Due to the limited area in the vicinity of the drain field and the extensiveness of the previous investigations in this area, excavating a new test hole will destroy the remaining undisturbed soils on this lot. PES proposes using the existing test hole and verification of lack of ground water and bedrock from surrounding lot's soil investigation. The neighboring lots all have test holes to depths ranging from 14 to 20 feet. Ground water was not observed in any test holes to a depth of 20' below the surface after the 7 -day monitoring period. Bedrock was not encountered in any of the test holes. Based on the results of the percolation tests performed on this and the surrounding lots, and the overall soils appearance; an application rate of 1.2 gallons/day/square feet was used for a conventional wastewater system for this property. The soil reports for those test holes on the surrounding lots are included in this design package. 2. Surface Water: There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed upgrade system. The upgrade will maintain at least 100 feet from all surface water and drainage ditches. 3. Topography: The existing topography in the area of the system is generally level in both the area surrounding the proposed and existing fields. 4. Waivers: We would like to request a waiver for separation distance for the proposed tank to the well located on the Jot and a waiver for a drain field to property line separation with the details of both specified below. a. Septic Tank (P) to Well (E): A separation distance waiver between existing well on Lot 16 to the proposed septic on the same lot is required. The distance between the proposed Mailing: P.O. A separation distance waiver for 95' between the tank (E) and well (E) was granted by DHHS in January 1987. The conditions on the lot remain unchanged from that time. The well is 470' deep with casing to full depth and with clayey materials down to 468' (this is noted on the original waiver. Water quality was checked on the subject property and on the surrounding lots and found to be acceptable (see table below). We are requesting a re -issuance of the existing waiver for the tank to the existing well for a distance of 95'. Absorption Field(P) to Lot Line Separation Distance: The trench of the proposed system is to be located one foot (0.5'±) from both the northern and southern property lines of the Lot. Due to the soil conditions and required field size in combination with the need to maintain absorption field to well separation distances there is limited ability to modify the arrangement of the field. Request a separation distance waiver from the Lot Lines to Absorption Field to 0.5'. c. Absorption Field (E) to Absorption Field (P) separation distance. The proposed field being placed on Lot 16 will be within 10' from the existing field on Lot 15. Due to the size of the lots in the area and the surrounding well radii there is limited space in which to place a drain field. The southern end of the field on L16 is 8.31-F from the northern end of the field on L15. The E.D. of the field on L16 is 4.0' and 3.0' for the field on L15. The separation of 8.3LF meets the minimum distance of 2 times the E.D. of the fields. Request a separation distance waiver for the fields to 8.O1 -F.
