We are submitting this permit application for the construction of a new septic system to serve the four-bedroom home on the lot. The attached site plan identifies the location of the home and the existing well and septic location and the proposed septic site. No conflicts exist between this proposed system and any other well or septic system whether on this lot or adjacent lots. The ground surface on the lot slopes to the northwest at a shallow grade. There are no slopes greater than 25% within 50 feet downslope of the proposed absorption system. Drainage arrows • are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow. Storm water drainage will not impact this septic system. The new trench will be constructed parallel to the slope as much as possible. Wells on this and adjacent lots are shown. The new system will be a minimum of 100' from all wells and surface water and more than 5' away from the septic tank. We have based our design on the percolation rates from 2 test hole logs completed in 1997. Although it appears that one of the test holes may have had groundwater at 6' in June of that year, we checked groundwater in this test hole as of 6/15/18 and found none. Additionally, we researched the test hole information on the 3 properties immediately adjacent and found no groundwater in any of them: Stork#2, Lot 5: Two test holes, no groundwater to 9.5' and 10', dated 9/21/88 Shirley, Lot 1: One test hole,no groundwater to 12', dated 9/9/71 Bristow, Lot 3: One test hole, no groundwater to 9.5', dated 6/28/76 We request that our new groundwater monitoring be accepted for this project and the previous results disregarded, as the results we found seem to be consistent with the historical record. With regards to the groundwater monitored in the 1997 test hole, I think the engineer started to enter the date in that space and then scratched it out, but didn't quite scratch out the "6". There are a number of reasons I think this: 1) You can kind of make out what did get scratched out and it appears to be the "19" for June 19`" 2) The 1997 design used 2.5 total depth and shows 4' minimum to the groundwater table on the section drawing. Even if they weren't taking into account the seasonal high adjustment, if groundwater was observed at 6 ft,that would only be a 3.5' separation. 3) For every permit that includes a drainfield, MOA On-site has to enter the soils log into Infor(the software that generates the permit). This includes entering the soil profile, date performed and date of 7-day groundwater monitoring, bedrock depth and groundwater depth. The existing septic tank shall be removed and the existing drainfield shall be abandoned 0.2 Construction shall be in accordance with the approved site plan and design drawings, Municipality of Anchorage permit with any special provisions or conditions. Deviations from the approved design drawings shall be coordinated and approved by the engineer conducting the inspections. 03 All construction procedures and material used to construct the system shall comply with Municipal and State regulations. 0.4 Unless specifically agreed otherwise, the homeowner shall be responsible for finish grading areas after the system is constructed and soil is compacted and mounded over the bed disposal field and the Septic Tank. 1.0 SEPTIC TANK 1.1 The 1250 gallon septic tank shall have two compartments and shall comply with Municipality of Anchorage Requirements. The tank shall include two 4" cleanouts for pumping access. 1.2 The septic tank shall be set level and shall be bedded as necessary to prevent settling or shifting of the tank 1.3 All pipe connections to the septic tank shall be made with waterproof mechanical couplings. A cleanout shall be installed upstream of the tank within 5 feet of the house foundation. A double cleanout shall be installed downstream, within 5 feet of the septic tank The first cleanout downstream of the septic tank shall clean toward the drainfield. The second cleanout shall be to clean toward the septic tank 2.0 SUBSURFACE DISPOSAL FIELD 2.1 The subsurface disposal field shall consist of a 15' x 50' bed. The bottom of the bed shall be excavated level and shall be approximately 2.5' beneath the existing ground level. 2.2 The bottom of the excavated trench shall be level within +/- 2". And compacted or smeared surfaces shall be raked to allow for proper infiltration of effluent. This includes both the sides and bottom of the trench. 2.3 A total of 1.0 ft. of sewer rock shall be placed over the excavated area. The perforated distribution pipes in the drainfield shall be placed as shown on the drawings and shall have at least 6 inches of sewer rock beneath the invert. The distribution pipes shall be placed level, with holes in the perf pipes pointed down 2.4 Sewer rock shall be 0.5 — 2.5", screened gravel with less than 3% passing the # 200 sieve. 2.5 Cleanout pipes and monitor tubes shall be 4" diameter and installed as shown on the plans. The portion of the monitor tube extending through the sewer rock shall be perforated. The final inspection shall be after filter fabric is placed; the trench and the final grading are complete. 3.2 The contractor shall coordinate with the engineer at least 24 hours prior to start of construction. PROBABLE IMPACTS TO ADJACENT PROPERTIES A) WELLS The proposed wastewater disposal system replaces an existing trench that has been in use since the house was built. The proposed wastewater disposal system is designed in accordance with current Municipal Wastewater Disposal Regulations. The proposed bed will be greater than 100 ft. from the well on this lot, and adjacent lots, Therefore there should be no adverse impact on wells from this new bed.
