The septic tank was pumped and verified to have a capacity of 1000 gallons. The absorption trench was tested by a continuous flow of water over a period of 48 hours. During the first 24 hour period, approximately 500 gallons of water was added with the water level in the monitoring tube at the end of the trench indicating complete trench saturation. During the second 24 hour period approximately 300 gallons of water was added with water backing up into the septic tank. The water level in the septic tank indicated that approximately 100 gallons had backed into the tank. It can be concluded from this test that the septic tank is adequate for three bedrooms. However, the absorption trench appears to be adequate for only one bedroom. I regret to inform you that it will be necessary for you to have the sytem upgraded before it can be considered adequate for three bedrooms.
