DSD On-Site Services P.O.Box 19-6650 Anchorage, AK 99519-6650 Dear Sirs: By means of this letter I am requesting issuance ora waiver allowing the private well on Lot 11, Block 2, Rockhill S/D located at 6333 Limestone Circle to be approved in its present location 97 feet from an existing soil absorption trench on Lot 13, Block 2, Rockhill S/D. A site plan illustrating the relevant configuration as well as water test results, COSA application, excerpt from the current property appraisal and copies of relevant documents from your files are enclosed. According to the enclosed driller's log the well was drilled in April of 2000 and has a total depth of 90 feet and a yield of 30 gpm. On November 6, 2006 1 conducted an adequacy test of the well. The static water level stood at 48 feet and steady pumping of 1146 galloas of water from the well caused the water level inside the casing to be drawn down to 53 feet, but no further. Based on the test data I determined that the yield of the well is in excess orS.1 gpm, which is more than adequate for any single family residence. Water samples collected on November 6, 2006 were satisfactory, showing 0 coliform or other bacteria per 100 mi., 3.74 mg/l of nitrate nitrogen, and less than 5 micrograms per liter of arsenic. According to documents in your files the wastewater disposal system was installed in April of 2000 and consists of a 1250-gallon steel septic tank that discharges effluent into a 50-foot long soil absorption trench containing 5 feet of sewer gravel. Because the house was unoccupied prior to the test I thoroughly presoaked the trench with a total of 1480 gallons of water over two days. On November 10, 2006 1 measured the absorption rate to be 525 gallons per day, after the fluid level in the trench had been brought up to the invert of the horizontal distribution pipe. This absorption rate is adequate for COSA approval ora 3-bedroom residence only. The enclosed recent appraisal report shows that the house is now appraised as a 3-bedroom residence. During the course of the adequacy test I discovered that the standpipe at the south end of the soil absorption trench on Lot 13, Block 2, Rockhill S/D is 98.5 feet from the closest edge of the well casing on Lot i 1; therefore a separation distance waiver is needed. The soil absorption trench on Lot 13 was installed in September of 1983 and according to the as-built documents is 110 feet long with a depth ora little less than 6 feet at the south end. The topography in the vicinity of the septic system is generally level and approximately 3 feet higher than corresponding level on Lot 11. The configuration oftbe driveway on Lot ! i would prevent any surface flow from a failing trench on Lot 13 from reaching the vicinity of ibc Lot I 1 well. The following is a breakdown of how waiver analysis points could be assigned in accordance with the 1985 "Separation Distance Waiver Guidelines for SCRO".
