Septic System Upgrade Permit Request
Design Narrative
This is a design narrative for a permit to upgrade a septic system to be issued for this property. The
proposed systems will serve an existing four bedroom (4) bedroom house. Currently the lot is developed.
The existing field is in failure and will be re -used as a reserve. The surrounding developed lots are served
by private wells, with a Class 'C' well to the south. There are no wells within 100' of the proposed septic
system. The Class 'C' well is located approximately 130.9 feet from the existing field and a waiver is on
file at the Municipality.
1. Soils. One test hole was performed on this lot by PES in February of 2016, and groundwater was
monitored for at least seven days. Ground water was not observed to a depth of 10.0' below the
surface in the test hole monitor tube in February of 2016. Bedrock was not encountered in the test
hole. Based on the results of the percolation test and overall soils appearance; an application rate of
0.5 gallons/day/square feet was used for a conventional septic system in the area of the test hole.
2. Soil Absorption System Design.
a. See Sheet 1 of the design package.
3. Surface Water: There is no surface water within 100' of the proposed drainfield.
4. Topography: The existing topography generally slopes from the east to the west in the area
surrounding the septic system at approximately 2%. There are no steep slopes within 50' of the proposed
drain field. The proposed drain field will maintain 50' separation all steep slopes.
S. Drawing Markings: The Drawings are marked "For MoA Review Only". When written notification that
the review is complete and that there are no further comments is received from MoA On -Site
Department, the note will be removed and "Issued for Construction" drawings will be issued.
The proposed installation will not affect the future development of this or the surrounding lots.

Separation to Existing Field Waiver Request
Bed Width Waiver Request
Ladies and Gentlemen:
1. Separation Distance to Existing Field: We request a separation distance waiver for the
absorption field to an abandoned absorption field. During the excavation of a test hole on this lot PES
found the existing abandoned absorption field located on this lot to be located in the only reasonably
usable area for a new drain field. The field is located between 4.5' and 5.5' deep and has no insulation or
biomat. The soil above the field is native material that was excavated and replaced during the installation
of the existing field in 1987. There appears to be very little if any organics mixed in to the previously
disturbed soil, and over the course of nearly 30 years that soil has settled back into a well compacted
state.
It would be prohibitively expensive to remove this old field and replace it with sand so we are requesting a
separation waiver from the proposed field to this previously abandoned field to a distance of 0 feet
horizontally and 4.0 feet vertically. Any organics found to be mixed into the soil layer above the old field
will be removed and replaced with sand. Granting this waiver will pose no threat to the operation of the
proposed field, or the health and safety of this lot.
2. Bed Width: We request a waiver to the maximum width of a bed from 15' to 20'. The area
available cannot readily accommodate a bed with a length necessary to use a 15' wide design.' The system
will be pressurized with the manifold in the center of the field to ensure even distribution of effluent to
the field. Granting this waiver will pose no threat to the operation of the proposed field, or the health
and safety of this lot.

As certified by my seal affixed hereto and as of the validation date shown below, I verify` that my investigation, based on procedures
outlined in the Certificate of On -Site Systems Approval Guidelines for this application, shows that the on-site water supply and/or
wastewater disposal system is (are) safe, functional and adequate for the number of bedrooms and type of structure indicated
herein. I further verify that based on the information obtained from the Municipality of Anchorage files and from my investigation and
inspection, the on-site water supply and/or wastewater disposal system is (are) in compliance with all applicable Municipal and State
codes, ordinances, and regulations in effect at the time of installation.
In conducting an adequacy test, I attempt to provide a thorough, conscientious engineering analysis of the system in accordance with MoA
COSA guidelines and regulations. The reported results describe the performance of the system under the conditions encountered at the time
of the test, and separation distances measured to readily identifiable features. The operational life of all wells and septic systems depend on
the local soil condition, ground water levels that may fluctuate during the year, and the water usage of the family being served by the system.
These conditions are outside the control of the evaluator of this system. All systems eventually fail and satisfactory test results do not
guarantee future performance of the system, nor do they guarantee that there are no hidden defects or encroachments. Therefore we cannot
provide any warranty for future performance, nor can we estimate remaining life of the system. The content of this report is for the sole
benefit of the owner listed above. Reliance on this report by another person is at their own risk. Pannone Engineering Services LLC highly
recommends buyers hire their own engineer to evaluate this report.
