To whom it may concern: GEG, Ltd. was recently retained to do the C.O.S.A. inspections for the subject property. The septic system consists of a 1250 gallon concrete septic tank, a documented deep trench type drainfield and an undocumented drainfield. The homeowner was the original installer of the documented and the undocumented system. According to the homeowner (who used to be a certified septic installer), the undocumented drainfield was installed circa 1985 and was installed per code at the time. Based upon his claims, we decided to move forward with documenting the trench rather than abandoning it. The drainfields are connected via a diverter valve. The undocumented drainfield had been in use recently and was viable to perform an adequacy test on. We tested the undocumented drainfield on 6/22/2012 and it passed. We contacted your department and notified you of our intention to document the drainfield. On 6/26/2012, the owner exposed a section of the drainfield. GEG, Ltd. was able to verify the width, pipe material, size/type of drainrock and the presence of filter fabric. A confirmation testhole was then dug in the area of the undocumented drainfield to verify soil type and presence of groundwater. Per our conversation with Jeff Poet (6/26/2012) a percolation test was not required. Attached is an inspection form, site plan showing surrounding wells/septics, an as -built drawing showing the location and configuration of the system, a profile drawing of the system and the soil log for the confirmation testhole. During the course of our inspections, two deficiencies were noted: DRAINFIELD IS LOCATED IN EASEMENT: The previously undocumented drainfield encroaches approximately 4' into the west 20' utility easement. Attached are letters of non -objection from the utility companies and MOA right-of-way. We believe granting this encroachment will not negatively impact any surrounding wells or septic systems or future development. 3701 E. We request that you waive the distance to 8'+. We believe the sandy soils in the area will allow for rapid downward migration of effluent, reducing the risk that the trenches will effect each others performance via lateral migration.
