Box 196650 Anchorage, AK 99519-6650 Re: ON-SITE SEWER/WELL PERMIT Dear Sirs: RECEIVED At the request of Mary Britton, Phukan Consulting Engineers & Associates, Inc. (PCA) performed a preliminary investigation at the property with the legal description of Lot 11, Block 9, Second Addition to Elmore Subdivision. The purpose ofthe investigation was to determine the suitability of the subject property for development and on-site wastewater disposal. Two test pits were dug at the property. Their locations are shown on the enclosed site plan. Both test pits revealed an organic mat to an eight inch depth underlain by sandy silt from eight inches to 33 inches below the existing ground surface. Below the sandy silt, from 33 inches to eight feet deep is sandy gravel with cobbles. Ground water table was encountered at about seven foot depth in both test holes. Ground water was then monitored at both locations from September 14 through October 18, 1996. (Ref. attached Table). The highest water level was observed October 16 at Test Hole # 1, where the water level was 73.5 inches below the existing ground surface. A percolation test was conducted eight feet east of Test Hole # l, at a depth of four feet within the sandy gravel layer. Test results indicated a percolation rate of 3.5 minutes per inch. (Ref. attached test results). This is consistent with the visual soil classification and observed percolation rates on neighboring lots. Based on thc field investigation results, a five foot wide standard shallow trench disposal system has been designed for the leach field. To insure a four foot separation distance to ground water table, the base of the trench will be two feet below grade. The sandy silt at this level will be removed and replaced with filter sand. The trench was sized for the proposed three-bedroom house using an infiltration rate of one gallon per day per square foot, and an application rate of 150 gallonspcr bedroom per day. A total infiltration area of 450 square feet is proposed. There is minimal probable impact from the proposed wastewater disposal system to adjacent property. Wells are over 200 feet away from and up gradient of the proposed absorption trench and will not be affected. Reserved space and drainage on adjacent lots will not be affected. It is concluded and recommended that the proposed wastewater disposal system when constructed in accordance with the enclosed drawings and specifications, will not adversely affect ground or surface water quality or punic health. SECOND ADDITION TO ELMORE SUBDIVISION Septic tank shall be Municipality of Anchorage approved, two compartment, installed level, minimum volume 1000 gallons. Couplings on inlet and outlet shall be watertight. Manholes shall be equipped with watertight gaskets. Tank and solid sewer pipe shall be set on stable, well compacted soil. Solid sewer pipe shall be PVC conforming to ASTM D3034. Perforated pipe shall be PVC conforming to ASTM D303, ASTM F789 or ASTM FA10. Insulation shall be at least two inches of direct burial polystyrene (Dow Chemical Company Styrofoam HI or equal). Filter sand must be of naturally occurring material. Less than 4% must pass the No. 100 U.S. Standard Sieve and less than 2% must pass the No. 200 U.S. Standard Sieve. Trench bottom must be level throughout. Perforated pipe must be installed level with perforations do~vn. Smeared trench bottom must be raked or scarified prior to washed rock placement. Avoid compaction of absorption trench bottom and adjacent area.
