Subsequently, the owner has requested we proceed forward to obtain a septic permit to upgrade the septic system. The design is based on the original 1999 testholes and 2001 MOA approved primary and reserve design performed by Alaska Water & Wastewater Consultants, Inc. The proposed upgrade will serve the existing 4 -bedroom house. The MOA approved alternate site is the proposed upgrade, which consists of installing two 32' long deep trenches. The general slope of this lot over the septic area is from east to west at a grade of approximately 5-15%. The property and adjacent lots are served by private water. There is no surface water within 100' of the proposed system and there are no known curtain drains within 50'. Two test holes were excavated on the property. The proposed septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radii of test hole #1 and 42. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached are logs which shows the soil profile, and the percolation test results. In both test holes, the soils below the organic layers are a SM/ML material to a depth of 17.5 in TH91 and 16.5 feet in TH#2 (bottom of both test holes). A percolation test was performed in each test hole between the depths of 7.0 to 7.5 feet and found the rates to be 17.1 minutes/inch and 15 minutes/inch. No groundwater was encountered during the excavation of the test holes. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: 17.1 & 15 minutes/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 0.6 gallons/day/ t2 c. Number of Bedrooms: 5 d. Design Flow: 750 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 1250 ft2 f. Total Depth: 11 feet (max.) g. Effective Depth: 9 feet h. Width: 2.5 feet i. Reduction Factor: N/A i. Minimum Length: 70 feet long j Effective absorption area = 1260 ft2 3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed upgrade. 4. TOPOGRAPHY AND WAIVER REQUEST: As can be seen on the attached topography site plan, the area of the proposed septic system slopes at a 15 to 20 percent running from approximately east/northeast to west/southwest. The trench is to be installed parallel to slope contours. As can be seen on the design, there are two top of slopes shown that have a slope greater than 25 percent. The slope towards DeArmoun Road is naturally vegetated and the other slope is from excavation of the driveway. We request that a 35 foot waiver from the proposed drainfield and alternate site to a slope greater than 25 percent be granted. It is our opinion that there is minimal risk of effluent surfacing out of these slopes. I am unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems. Good evening, Just wanted to update you on the progress we made today. The clean out with Frostjacked clean out was repaired, while we were repairing that pipe we noticed the line was full of sludge and sewer rocks. We went ahead and completed jetting to that drain field line while we had the jetter going. We also exposed the splitter and the plumbing around it, it was observed to have a very small amount of backwards grade from the east trench to the west trench, so we ended up having to chase the line about 40 feet back to get sufficient grade. Tomorrow we will properly bed the pipes, and backfill the areas. Camera work was required to locate the splitter. We should be back on site tomorrow around 8 AM.
