The lot size is 0.4 acres, which is very small for the area. The test hole excavation revealed poor graded gravel (GP) for 4.0 feet then silty gravel (GM) for the remaining depth of 18 feet, with no water observed after the 7 day monitoring period. The pen: rate was 12 minutes per inch at --4 feet, in the slower silty gravel, a slower application rate of 0.6 was used for the design to increase system life. The new well is located on thc neighbors lot to the north, with an agreement between the two owners included in this submittal. We are also requesting a lot line waiver for the septic system. As the plan shows the lot is very tight therefore the primary trench has been shown parallel to the southern property line. All of the lot has a gentle slope of about 5 to 6 percent from the south to thc north, as shown on the plan. The neighboring lots will not be impacted by this new septic system due to Ihe large neighboring lot sizes. The tank overflowed and a "Notice of Violation" was issued to David Wise on May 6, 1986. In addition to pumping the tank and disinfecting the affected area, we will require that the tank be equipped with an automatic high water alarm system that will notify the occupants of the house when the tank needs pumping. This is a simple, low voltage electrical switching device that can be purchased at most pump supply stores. The float switch of this device should be installed about 1/3 from the top of the tank to provide ample warning of impending overflow. The audio/visual alarm should be installed inside the house in a visible location. An electrical permit and inspection is required for the installa- tion. Please provide proof that this alarm system has been pro- perly installed by July 1, 1986. A copy of the electrical inspector's sign-off will be considered proof of proper installa- tion. McGregor: At your request of January 9, 1979, we conducted a subsurface soils investi- gation at the proposed location of the sanitary sewer system on the s~bject lot. The investigation complied with those procedures required by the Municipality of Anchorage Department of Health and Environmental Protection. This investigation, which was accomplished on January 18, 1979, consisted of a test hole excavated to a depth of 14.5 feet below the existing g~ound surface. The test hole location is shown in attached Drawing A-01. ~ test pit encountering the same soil conditions was dug to a depth of 51 feet adjacent to the test hole for the purpose of conducting a percolation test. Excavation was accomplished with a backhoe. Ail material excavated po the surface by the backhoe was continuously monitored by an experienced Geotech- nical Engineer. The topography at the excavation is generally gently-sloping. At the time of the investigation the site had original vegetation. The top of the test hole was located at original ground surface. ] The soils encountered in the excavation are shown in the test hole ~og in Drawing A-01. This log displays specific conditions encountered at the test location. However, subsurface conditions may vary in other parts of the lot without any apparent surficial evidence of the change. Groundwater ~as not encountered. Bedrock was not encountered. At the time the hole was exca- vated seasonal frost was not present and permafrost was not encountered[ A percolation test was performed within the secondary hole at a depth!of § to 7 feet, as shown in the attached Table 1. Ail depths were measured from the top of the hole. The data in Table I show average infiltration frdm the depths indicated to the bottom of the hole.
