Box 196650 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6650 Ref: Well and Septic Design for Kasilof Hills Subdivision; Lot 3, Block 4 To whom it may concern: The proposed 4 bedroom house will be served by a private well and septic system. Three test holes were excavated on the property. The proposed septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radius of test hole #1. We are proposing that a 1250 gallon septic tank and four (4) five foot wide drainfields be installed. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: Attached are logs which show the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. In TH#1, the soils below the organic layers are a SM/ML material to a depth of 16 feet (bottom of test hole). Groundwater was encountered at 15.5 feet during the excavation of this test hole. In TH#2, the soils below the organic layers are a SM material with some ML to a depth of 6.5 feet (bottom of test hole). Groundwater seeps were encountered at 4.0 feet and groundwater at 4.5 feet during the excavation of this test hole. In TH#3, the soils below the organic layers are a SM material to a depth of 5.0 feet, and then transitions to a GM/SM to a depth of 8 feet and then transitions to a SM/ML material to a depth of 10.5 feet (bottom of test hole). Groundwater seeps were encountered at 8 feet and groundwater at 10 feet during the excavation of this test hole. Two percolation tests for TH#1 were performed, the first between the depths of 3.0 feet to 3.5 feet which had a percolation rate of 12 minute/inch. The second, between the depths of 6.5 feet to 7.0 feet which also had a percolation rate of 12 minute/inch. TH#2 was percolated between the depths of 2.0 feet to 2.5 feet which had a percolation rate of 15 minute/inch. TH#3 was percolated between the depths of 3.0 feet to 3.5 feet which had a percolation rate of 17.1 minute/inch. On 8/16/2000, all groundwater monitoring tubes were dry. It is our opinion that due to the overall appearance of the soils, an application rate of 0.6 gallons/day/ft2 should be used. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed upgrade. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached topography site plan, the average topography of this property is a 16 to 23 percent running from approximately east to west; in short, there are no slope concerns. The trenches are to be installed parallel to slope contours. We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems.
