Both lots 3 & 4 are owned by the homeowner and will be treated as one property. The proposed well is to be located on Lot 3. Two test holes were excavated on Lot 4 in the area of the proposed septic system. The proposed septic system will be designed around the 30 foot radii of these test holes. We are proposing that a 1500 gallon S.T.E.P. tank and a pressurized deep trench type drainfield be installed. Comments regarding the proposed design are summarized as follows: 1. SOILS: See the attached logs which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the percolation test results. It is our opinion that the insitu sandy, silty soils should act as a sand filter and that an application rate of 1.0 gallons/dayffi� should be used. 2. TRENCH DESIGN: a. Percolation Rate: <1 & 5.7 minutes/inch b. Allowable Application Rate: 1.0 gallons/day/ft2 c. Number of Bedrooms: 4 d. Design Flow: 600 gallons per day e. Minimum Absorption Area: 600 R2 f. SURFACE WATERS: There is some ponding on Lot 3 within 100 feet of the proposed septic system. All ponded areas are to be filled with river rock (the river rock will then be covered with pit run gravel) and graded so that no surface water exists within 100 feet of the septic system. 4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached topography site plan, the trench will be installed on a slope that ranges from 25 to 30 percent running from approximately northeast to southwest. The area below the proposed drainfield will be filled/graded so that is less than 25 percent slope; in short, there will be no slope concerns. The septic system cons1W of a 1500 gallon S.T.E.P. tank and 60 feet of 5 - wide trench. During construction, the area between septic tank and drainfield was graded in an attempt to prevent the ponding of surface water within the 100 foot setbacks. The septic tank was visually inspected and found to be sound. The S.T.E.P tank is equipped with a high water alarm. If the tank were to overflow this alarm will notify the homeowners, and appropriate measures will be taken to remedy the situation. The surface water consists of a small marshy area beyond the fill placed for the drive way. The area is approximately 100 square feet and up to 6 inches deep. A drain pipe surfaces from underneath the driveway and terminates in the middle of the marshy area. No flow was observed from this drain, although it is probable that during periods of precipitation it does produce water. From review of the septic permit application and septic system asbuilt it is likely that the area between the septic tank and the drain field was wet. Attempts at grading and diverting the water have only been partially successful. There are no indicators that the septic overflow is likely. The 1500 gallon septic tank is a closed vessel with manhole access and a high water alarm. The tank integrity can be visually monitored and the alarm will inform the homeowners if the septic system starts to back up.
