4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather must either:
A. Open and Close on the same day.
B. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing.

Ref: Proposed Septic System Upgrade for Elmore #2; Block 10, Lot 10
To whom it may concern:
The existing 3 bedroom house is served by a private well and septic system. The
existing septic system is undocumented and is likely encroaching on groundwater. We
are proposing to install a new 1000 gallon septic tank and 5-wide dual trench type
drainfield. One test hole was excavated on the property and the drainfield is designed
within its 30 foot radius. Comments regarding the design are summarized follows:
1. SOILS: See the attached 2016 logs which show the soil classifications, groundwater
monitoring, and the percolation test results.
2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications.
3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface water concerns.
4. TOPOGRAPHY: As can be seen on the attached topography drawing, the average
topography around the proposed drainfield is 5-10% with a cutbank at the road that
slopes greater than 25% to the west, see attached design drawing and slope waiver
request drawing for details.
5. WAIVERS: The proposed septic system is approximately 40 feet away from slopes
greater than 25%. We are requesting that your department waiver the required.
separation distance from drainfield to slopes greater than 25% from 50 feet down to 35
feet. Justification for granting this waiver are as follows:
· What is assumed to be the existing drainfield is approximately 0 feet from slopes
>25%. No weeping was noted during our site visit on 8/18/2016.
· As can be seen on the profile drawing, a line drawn 2 feet above the top of
system at a 25% slope does not intersect with the existing slope.
Additionally, we are requesting that your department issue a waiver from the required

separation distance of 100 feet from drainfield to the well down to 90 feet. Justification
for granting this waiver are as follows:
· The existing drainfield and tank likely encroaches on the existing well. It is
assumed that this encroachment has existed for decades.
· The proposed drainfield is downhill from the existing well. If effluent were to
overflow, it would not travel towards the wellhead.
· Water samples were pulled on 8/11/2016 and the results are summarized as
follows:
o Nitrate: Non-Detectable
o Arsenic: Non-Detectable
o Coliform: Negative
We are also requesting that your department waiver the requirement for a sand filter. As
can be seen on the attached soil log, there is a transition from the GM material to a GW
at 6.5 feet. A sieve analysis was taken (see attached) and verified the soil classification
of GW. However, over 51% of the soil sample passed the #4 sieve. In short, although
the soil was classified as a GW, since 51% passed the ¢4 sieve it seems reasonable to
assume that the in-situ soil will function similar to a sand filter. Therefore, we are
requesting that your department waiver the requirement for a sand filter.
We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells
