The proposed system will serve an existing four-bedroom house. Currently the lot is developed. The existing septic system was designed and installed for three bedrooms, but the MoA parcel details indicate four bedrooms. The existing 1000 gallon septic tank is collapsed, putting the house out of service. Because we have not yet verified weather the house is actually three or four bedrooms I request that we be allowed to replace the tank as a four bedroom and verify the actual bedroom count during installation. If an appraisal confirms three bedroom the condition of the drain will be verified, and if it is operating an appraisal will be provided. If the house is confirmed at four bedrooms the drain field will be upgraded. The existing 1000 gallon tank will be abandoned per code. This lot is served by a private well that is over 100' from the septic system. The surrounding lots are also served by private wells that are over 100' from this system.. Upgrade Tank Design. a. See Sheet 1 of 1 of the plan set 2. Surface Water: There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed system. The proposed systems will maintain at least 100 feet from all surface water and drainage ditches. 3. Topography: Lot 1 slopes from sourtheast to northwest at approximately 5% in the area of the tank replacement. The -,:specific property is Lot 1 , Block 2, Hampton Hills. The propased:house:will be -a 3 bedroom structure. The soil conditions.. at :the lot•:were investigated by excavating four backhoe test pits in: May =1:980 A John Deere .450 bacvnoe was used for the excavations. -.The. -test, pits were excavated toy depths of 8 to 12 feet at the e-locatlonxshown.on the attached map. During the excavation.the soils.°encountered-..in:'the.-backhoe -pits were visually .classified on the basis -of- the iniflied-Soil Classification System. The conditions encountered .in:the- puts'are summarized on the at- tached plate. From the end of the .-cu l-.de-:s.ac:the property drops about 45 feet in elevation with average s_hoVe of abo-ut 2 horizontal to 1 verti- cal (2:1). The lower half .of -the property i --s. rolling with rela- tively flat conditions-, The .vegetationon the ht�consists predomi- nantly of large spruce trees. In all four test pits:_ -.the upper`-1__to-:2 feet -of material consists of organic silts.and silts. -.with consider -ab -le amount -of root growth and vegetation. In the_ sloping.areas`of. the site the organic silt is underlain by -sandy :gravel --to. dep.ths!'of -about 8 feet. A layer of silty clay about 6 inches-thick-:was:enc.ountered in both of the test pits on the. -slope at a depth of -about -8 'feet. Beneath the silty clay a silty sandy- gravels-was-encountered-to'the depths explored. In the lower area of .the site the-or.:ganic si-lt and silt is -underlain by sand and gr.aveT. The-s:andy- gravel is .underlain by sandy -silt to the depths ex.plored.� In'Test-P:it 31 -the sandy gravel was only 1 foot thick. At Test Pit 4 where the proposed sewage absorption field is to be loc-ated,-the surface silts were underlain by silty sand and sandy gravel to a depth of -8 feet. =From 8 feet to 12 feet, the depth explored, the sand and gravel -;was underlain by silt. Ground water is perched on top of the silt; seepage was observed to be occurring at a depth of 8 feet. A percolation test was performed at a depth of 5 feel. below existing grade in accordance with the procedures outlined in the Manual of Septic Tank Practice by the U.S. Public Health Service The results of the percolation test indicated a percolation rate of about 10 minutes per inch. Mr. David Haugen August 4, 1980 Page Two Based on the results`of�.the soil:?eondit:ions at the site and the percolation test, I. recommend the followiing for :design of the ab- sorption trench system. 1. A per.col.ation`rate- of 15 minotes per' inch is recommended for design. Th -i -s percolation -rate -would result in a re- quired 19D.square: feetcof - absorption trench per bedroom: a total of 570 square feet fta thre.e-bedroom house. Assum- ing that the --trenches 011=.be.48 inches wide, a total of 142 feet ''of.- trench would be`:required for the absorption field system:" .The tre'n'ch -'should be spaced so that the width of-'natura1 soil';hetween the trenches is at least twice the depth of::gravel ''in the trenches. 2 Because of the presence of '-Seepage at'S feet and the requirement for==4 feet o.f.vertical separation between ground water -and they -bottom.of the. absorption field, the absorption pi -pe and graveT backfill should be placed no deeper than 4 -:feet below existing ground. This will only result -in :about 2 feet.sof:: cover over the system.
