It was not possible to place the new tank 10' from the foundation due to the location of the existing tank and absorption trench. A small section of the new tank is 5' from the edge of the footing. The remainder of the tank varies from 5' to 10' from the footing. The attached drawing illustrates the septic tank and its location in relation to the house foundation. The influence line of the footing and foundation when projected down at a 1:1 slope does not encroach into the new septic tank. It is unlikely that the location of the tank will have any influence on the foundation. We hereby request a waiver be issued allowing the septic tank to remain in its current location. A special anion exchange filter that contains a media with a strong affinity for negatively charged ions in water, or by a reverse osmosis treatment system or distillation can remove nitrate. TESTING: Nitrate analysis is usually done by one of the several "wet chemical" methods using a spectrophotometer to read the final color endpoint. Specific ion electrodes also can be used to detect the activity of nitrate in water. This laboratory uses several different wet chemical methods approved under the public water supply laboratory certification program. They also have test kits available, which the laboratory uses to perform an inexpensive "screening test", and with which the homeowner can monitor the change in nitrate levels from their well. They recommend comparing the test kit results against a certified analysis from the lab occasionally to verify the accuracy of the kit.
