The existing septic system needs to be replaced. The proposed system will serve a 3 -bedroom single- family residence. Soil logs, design calculations, a site plan, design drawings and construction specifications are enclosed for your review. Design Calcs: Groundwater observed to a depth of 10.5 feet below ground surface (8/15/14). Soil Rating. From Test hole #17/31/14 2.2 min/in = 1.2 gal per sq.ft/day From Test hole #2 7/31/14 3.8 min/in = 1.2 gal per sq.ft/day No. of Bedrooms 3 Required Area per Bedroom: 150/ 1.2 =125 sq.ft. Total area required: 125 x 3 = 375 sqft System: We are proposing a wide trench absorption field. The septic tank was replaced in 2013 and should be in good shape. The absorption field will be 70 feet long and 5 feet wide and contain 2.5 feet (547 sq.ft. effective) of sewer rock. Soils: Test holes were excavated on July 31St, 2014. See the attached soil logs. Ground water monitoring will continue through construction of the septic system. Topography: The ground level slopes down towards the west at less than 15% grade Waivers: None The installation of this septic system will not prevent wells and septic systems from being installed on the adjacent lots. The proposed septic system will not change the general slope of the area. Ponding and/or concentration of surface runoff will not result from this installation. The existing septic tank is in a state of failure (collapsed) and needs to be upgraded immediately. We are proposing to decommission the existing tank and replace it with a new 1500 gallon septic tank (Per the request of the homeowner). Due to the tanks collapsed state, we are requesting an emergency permit to install a new tank as soon as possible. It should be noted, that according to Maribeth Brown (home owner of 35+ years), A+ Home Services has been pumping the existing tank every few years. She has stated that they pull their pump truck onto her yard and then pull down past the well. This would in essence bring the pump truck approximately 65' closer to the septic tank, and several feet lower in elevation than originally assumed. Also worth noting, is that the slope on the property, moving downhill to the West of the house," abruptly flattens out at the location of the existing tank, and the crib is located in a flat area. In short, the new tank cannot be set much deeper than the existing tank to allow for gravity feed to the crib.
