The amount of water in the groundwater monitor tube was measured to be 103 inches on April 22 and 24. The tube was dry on April 19. It does not seem possible that the groundwater level can rise that rapidly. It may be that the water in the monitor is the result of surface water flowing into the testhole excavation. On April 24, 1996, the elevation of the water level in the monitor was 2 feet below the standing water in the low area to the west. The water level in the existing trench was 2 feet higher than the level in the groundwater monitor. The water level will be monitored during breakup to establish the status of groundwater. Assuming that high groundwater levels makes the installation of a standard septic system impossible, my client desires to obtain a permit for the installation of a 3000 gal. Holding tank. Mr. Kingsley is a certified welder employed by Alaska Petroleum Contractors. He has access to pipe sections ofvm'ious diameters and wall thicknesses. Dear Mr. Thomas: At your request of February 7, 1979, I conducted a soils investigation at the proposed location of a sanitary Sewer system on the subject lot. This investigation, which was accomplished on February 9, 1979, consisted of the inspection of soils removed during drilling of a 6 inch diameter, 17.0 feet deep test hole, using solid flight augers powered by a track mounted Mobile B-50 drill rig. After completion of drilling, the test hole was filled with water and a percolation test performed. The results of this test are tabulated on an accompanying sheet. The soils encountered are graphically shown on the accompanying test hole boring log. The soils consisted of a layer of organics 0.5 feet thick, overlying a Silt with a trace Sand and Gravel 7.5 feet thick, in turn Overlying a Silt with Some Sand and Gravel 5.0 feet thick, underlain by a Silty Gravel with some Sand to a total depth of 17.0 feet. There is posssibly a thin lense of clean gravel at approximately the 10 foot depth. No water table was encountered. The topography of the subject lot consists of low swale in the northwest portion of the lot, rising to an elevation 5 to 10 greater on the other parts of the lot. Vegetation present on the subject lot consists scattered spruce and birch to 30 feet tall, groups of dense alders to 10 feet tall, and a low ground cover of mosses and grasses. A snow cover 3 to 4 feet deep was present on the lot at the time of the investigation. An accompanying sketch shows the subject lot with the approximate location of the test hole in relation to the property lines. I appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you.
