Narrative & Upgrade Application
Dear Mr. Cross:
The proposed septic system upgrade will have very limited impact on adjacent properties for the
following reasons:
1. The surrounding lots are large, allowing sufficient room for septic sites.
2. Immediate neighboring septic systems are all +30' distance.
3. Reserve space is adequate, due to absorption capacity.
4. Drainage will not be affected and is not a major consideration in our design.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR ON-SITE SYSTEM
LEGAL: Mountain Park Estates Lot 6, Block 11

A. GENERAL
1. The septic plan is for a single family residence only.
2. The drawing and/or site plan shall be a part of this specification.
3. All materials and workmanship shall meet the Anchorage Department of Health
requirements.
4. All soil tests are advisory to the design and are to verified or modified in the field by the
Engineer.
5. All excavations and depths are advisory and are to be verified in the field by the
Contractor to meet MOA-DHHS requirements.
6. It is the responsibility of the Owner to obtain all necessary permits or easements and to
locate any adjacent multi -family wells.
7. It is the responsibility of the Contractor to secure all utility locates prior to construction.
8. The excavation is to be exactly in the area shown on the site plan, any deviation requires
Engineer approval.
9. It is always recommended that a surveyor locate the nearest lot line position and the
location of any easements.
10. Any remaining open test hole excavations shall be filled.
B. LEACHFIELD
1. The leachfield is to follow the natural contour to maintain uniform total depth of the trench
bottom.
2. The bottom of the leachfield shall be level, plus or minus 1.5".
3. The total depth of the leachfield excavation is not to exceed 8' at any point.
4. The sewer line is to replace the existing sewer line that leads to the existing leaching
system.
5. The leach gravel is to be covered with typar fabric material.
6. Soil or combination of soil and extruded board insulation to a depth of 3' or equivalent is
to be placed over the leachfield.
7. The area over the trench is to be finish graded to prevent ponding of surface water runoff.
8. The septic tank and leachfield must not be closer than 100' to any existing private well,
150' to any Class "C" well, or 200' to any community well.
RECOMMENDED LEACHFIELD DIMENSIONS:
TOTAL DEPTH = 8' GRAVEL DEPTH = 6' under pipe, 2" over pipe
GRAVEL LENGTH = 62' GRAVEL WIDTH = 3'

Dear Mr. Tamburel-li:
We are submitting herewith the boring logs, percolation results and our
comments regarding soil conditions encountered at the subject site.
This investigation was performed in accordance with your request of June
21, 1976, and those procedures outlined in a letter dated July .15, 1976
by Mr. Rolf Strickland of the Municipality of Anchorage, Department of
Environmental Quality.
A single test hole was put down within each of the Lots 6, 7, 8, and 9
for the purpose of defining general subsurface soil conditions and
conducting percolation tests for the proposed sanitary system. Excavation
was accomplished with an auger type drilling rig and the test holes were
extended to a total. depth of 18' feet below ground surface. The final
log prepared for the test hole has been included in Drawing A01 through
A04.
Ground water was not encountered in the test holes.

are; unperforated plastic pipes 12 and 13 feet deep. Water depths
were 52 and 36 inches.

Oft i.,pril. 22, 1981,150 gal was discharged into one of the sumps
and the water depth monitored in the other„ The flow rate was
5 gal/ min. The water level in both sumps rose immediately
to 68 inches; and remained at that level during the test.
The depth in the tank wqs 22 inches before and after the test.
Since the situps are unperforaten it i.s not possible to measure
the liquid depth in the trench. however it can be stated that
the .liquid level was at least 2.6 feet below the drainpipe
at the beginning of the test. Assuming; the trench is three
feet: wide and that the gravel_ backfill has a void ratio of
2.54, the volume of the 450 Cal of water translates into
240 cu.ft, of troch space. In a 31 feet long trench this
means 2.6 1't. depth. With other words a minimum of one third
of the trench is stall operating.

Test Result The actual absorption rate of this system can not be measured.
This tent does show that more than one third of the trench
is operat%G and can absorb 450 dal of liquid in a 90 min.
period.

Dear Mr. Blair:
This is a formal request for reclassification of a well site
on Lot 6, Block 11, Mountain Park Estates Subdivision #1 (Alpine Dr.)
from a private well to public.
This request is due to the declared "dry hole" well on Lot 8,
Block 11 of same subdivision. The well on Lot 8 was drilled to
a depth of 474 feet with no sign of water. However, prior to
aborting this well, an attempt by the well driller, Vern Nowell,
was made to develop the well by perforating the casing at 145 to
149 feet. This effort did produce some water, but not enough to
sustain a household. The well casing was capped on November 2, 1976.
Due to the location of the septic system on Lot 8 and adjacent
lots, 7 and 9, and the house foundation having already been built
in conjunction with the well drilling activity, no alternative
well site could be established without severly encroaching on DEQ
minimum separation distance allowances established for well -septic
systems.
Therefore, after reviewing the situation on Lot 81 it was
decided the best course of action would be to obtain reclassification
of the well on Lot 6. This well is the most productive of the
three. It has been rated at 25 GPM.

This well, if reclassified, will not at anytime serve more
than two households: Lot 6, Joe Pace, and Lot 8, Bill Smith.
The overall distance of the supply line to Lot 8 is estimated at
450 feet. This line will be buried to a depth of 12 to 13 feet
and an easement will be obtained where it transverses Lot 7.
Both well logs and plot plans (not to scale) are attached
for your reference.
