Department of Health and Human ,Services
SUBJECT: S-9342 - Narnia Subdivision
DHHS will support the proposed plat with the following conditions:
We will require that the existing undocumented sewer
system (which is in failure) be upgraded prior to final
plat. This department will verify that upgrading is
completed no later than June 15, 1993.
Water monitoring will be required on all test holes
through May, 1993.
The proposed well on Lot 2 must be relocated slightly
to accommodate additional reserve area needed for this
lot.

Dear Susan,
At the request of the property owner and per our telephone
conversation on I/7/93, we visited the referenced property to
further investigat~ the existing s~ptic system.
The septic system is apparently undocumented, however, the current
owner says the previous owner claims the system consists of a "1000
gallon septic tank with a leachfield trench".
Inspection of the property found 3 existing septic pipes. The
standpipe closest to th~ house appears to be a septic tank
cleanout. Approximately 1100 gallons of wastewater was pumped from
the tank. The second standpip~ is a 4 inch PVC cleanout in the
s~w~r line leading from th~ septic tank to the leaehfield. The
third pipe within the system is apparently a l~achfield monitoring
tube. Inspection of this pip~ found a liquid l~vel approximately 2
ft. from the ground surface. Approximately 200 gallons of ~ffluent
was pumped from this pipe.
Th~ s~ptic system s~rving the property apparently consists of a
septic tank/leachfield type system. Test hol~s excavated on the
property in October, 1992 suggested no groundwater encroachment
existed at that tim~. However, an encroachment may exist on the
bedrock. Due to the unusually high liquid level within the
leachfield monitoring tub~, I susp¢cl the system is in a state of
failure with little absorption capacity. However, inspection of
the area adjacent to the leachfield did not reveal any surfacing
effluent or other obvious signs of an eminent health hazard.
It should also b~ noted that in the event the septic system do~s
overflow, the septic tank cleanout is accessible for periodic
pumping as necessary to minimize health hazards until the septic
system is upgraded.
