Septic System Upgrade Permit Application
Impacts to Adjacent Properties
Dear Onsite Services Engineer:
The septic tank on Lot 2, Block 1, Mountain Park Estates Subdivision No. 2 has failed
and in danger of creating a health and environmental problem. We are therefore
applying for a permit to replace the failed tank. The attached Site Plan shows the
location of the failed tank as well as the location of the new tank and the absorption pit.
A recent probe of the pit indicates it is dry and apparently functioning adequately.
The new tank will be placed in the same location as the existing tank. Two post tank
cleanouts will be placed and a foundation cleanout if necessary. No other work will be
completed at this time. The tank is located approximately 110' from the well on the lot.
There are no conflicts with existing wells or septic systems in the area.
If the system is constructed in accordance with our design the following statements
apply:
1. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on the wells
in the area or those to be constructed in the future.
2. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on existing
septic systems in the area or those to be constructed in the future.
3. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on reserved
space, either surface or subsurface, on any lots located in the area.
4. The system, if constructed as designed, will have no adverse impact on drainage
patterns in the area. The current drainage pattern will be maintained.

300 GPD was determined to be leaking into the septic, consequently skewing the field test

On June 26, 2019, we tested the existing crib at the above address for septic adequacy. It had been
treated with hydrogen peroxide as a restoration and the liquid levels had dropped significantly.
However, they had not dropped as much as we had anticipated. When we injected 500 gallons into
the crib, the liquid level rose from 60" to 88" and dropped to 66" in the next 24 hours. It appears
that the crib absorbed 392 gallons, a little less than the required 450 gallons.
However, I met the municipal inspector at the site a few weeks later. As we examined the system,
we both observed a steady leak of water into the crib. This was not a slow drip, but an audible
trickle that visibly disturbed the water as we directed light into the monitoring tube of the crib.
This trickle was continuous the entire time that we were on site looking at the system.
As the home was locked, we were unable to access the interior to find where the leak was coming
from. However, even a small leak introduces significant water into the system. Constant small
dripping would add up to more than 50 gallons/day, leading to a passing test. Our estimate was
that this leak was adding an additional 200-300 gallons per day.
We request that this leak be taken into account to show a passing septic test for this system.
