The proposed revisions were discussed with Jay Crewdson of the Onsite Water and Wastewater Program on Wednesday November 27h, 2013. Design Cities: Groundwater observed at a depth of 6.5 feet below ground surface (9/23/13). Soil Rating. From Test hole 9/16/13 1.5 min/in = 0.8 gal per sq.ft/day (between 1.5-4 feet) 22 min/in = 0.4 gal per sq. ft. /day (below 4 feet) No. of Bedrooms 3 Required Area per Bedroom: 15010.8 = 187.5 sq.ft. Total area required: 187.5 x 3= 562.5 sqft System: A new 1250 gallon STEP tank followed by a bed absorption field. The absorption field will be 60 feet long and 10 feet wide and contain 0.5 feet (600 sq.ft. effective) of sewer rock. A minimum of 1 foot of MOA approved filter sand will be placed below the sewer rock. A portion of the proposed absorption field will be constructed over the existing field. An additional percolation test will be required prior to the installation of the absorption bed. Soils: Below a 1.5 foot deep layer of organics, there is a sand and gravel layer to 4 feet. Between 4 and 9 feet there is a silty gravel layer. See attached soils logs. Ground water was observed at a depth of 7 feet below the ground surface during the test hole excavation. Ground water monitoring will continue through the high water. Surface Water: A drainage ditch was discovered north of the property during the system layout on November 26h, 2013. A subsurface drain discharges into the ditch approximately 20 feet north of the property. A low point exists to the west of the proposed absorption field. Waivers: Absorption field to Surface water — 75 feet. A drainage berm will be constructed to channel potential septic system overflow away from the drainage ditch (see sheet 2/3& 3/3). This berm will direct potential overflow west to a low spot on the property 100+ feet from any surface water. A portion of the proposed bed will be constructed over the top of the existing absorption field. The portion of the existing field below will be removed and clean native material will be placed beneath the filter sand. The proposed system is a bed with pressurized distribution. Pressurized beds allow for better aeration of the absorption surface, because the absorption surface is dosed intermittently. Pressurized distribution will also ensure that effluent is distributed over the entire bed surface, preventing localized overloading and maintaining aerobic conditions in the absorption field. A minimum of 1 foot of filter sand will be placed beneath the sewer rock, this will provided a degree of filtration treatment before effluent percolates into the in-situ soils. Filter sand has high permeability, increasing the likely hood of maintaining aerobic conditions at the sewer rock filter sand interface. We are requesting a waiver of the 10 foot horizontal separation between the existing septic system absorption field and the existing bed to 5 feet. Bed systems drain vertically so horizontal subsurface migration of effluent should be minimal. The existing bed is 2.5 feet below the proposed absorption surface. 5 feet of horizontal separation will ensure that effluent from the proposed system does not intercept the remaining portion of the abandoned bed. The existing bed will be remove within five feet of the proposed bed and back filled with clean silty native material. Granting of the requested waiver will not adversely impact public health or safety. The installation of this septic system will not prevent wells and septic systems from being installed on the adjacent lots. The proposed septic system will not change the general slope of the area.
