SPECIFICATIONS & DESIGN GUIDELINES
Wastewater System Sizing: The current septic tank has failed- the seepage trench still
functions. This lot is close to 2 acres and on private water. No adverse impacts are
expected from tank replacement. Easements are depicted on the lot. The slope is
indicated in the area of the septic system. No conflicts to neighbor properties.
Specification Requirements: All components and work must comply with the
Municipality of Anchorage Specifications (AMC) & State of Alaska Drinking Water
Regulations and Wastewater Regulations.
New 2- compartment, 1250 gallon septic tank or larger. Watertight couplings on inlet
& outlet.
5 minimum between the tank and trench. 5 to property lines & 10 to house.
4 of cover or insulation is required for tank; an equivalent of 1 insulation for 1 foot
soil cover. Tank & solid pipe must be set on well compacted, stable soil.
No large rocks for tank bedding. Plastic/fiberglass tanks require special bedding per
MOA- sand or pea gravel.
4 diameter cleanouts with airtight caps are required 1 to 4 from foundation wall,
prior to any 90 degree bend in 4 inch line, in 2 nd tank compartment, and two adjacent
opposing cleanouts between the tank and the absorption field, not more than 10 from
the tank positioned to provide cleanout access towards the tank and towards the
absorption field. Manhole Riser required in 1 st tank compartment.
All cleanouts must extend to at least ground level.
In solid pipe runs, ASTM D-3034 may be used in lieu of cast iron.
Insulation must be placed over any pipe installed under driveways or parking areas.
Approved pipe materials include cast iron, PVC ASTM D3034, PVC ASTM F789,
ABS ASTM D2661,
Sewer Service Line is minimum 2% slope.
Septic Tank to be pumped every two years or when required.
Insulation board to be extruded direct burial polystyrene (Dow Styrofoam HI/equal)

SUBJECT: Soils Investigation
LOCATION: Lot 9, Block 2, Prospect Heights
Gentlemen:
Transmitted herein are the results of the subsurface exploration
performed on the subject property on May 1, 1975.
Exploration consisted of 1 nineteen foot test hole drilled by
Denali Drilling, Inc. employing Nodwell mounted, Mobile' B-50
drill, fitted with an 8", continuous flight auger. Grab samples
were taken at 5 foot intervals, by pulling the auger out of
the test hole and removing the sample from the flights of the
auger from near the bit. The soils were visually classified
in the field in accordance with Sheets 1 through 3, following
the text. The field classification was verified by visual review
of samples based on the same criteria, in the laboratory. A
mechanical analysis was performed on combined samples from 4
and 9 feet to further define the grain size distribution.
The drilling was supervised and the test hole was logged by
O.M. Hatch, geologist of our staff. The test hole was located
by Mr. Thompson. The test hole was logged as follows:

DISCUSSION
Mr. Hatch visually estimated the silt content of the samples
from 0 to 10 feet to contain between 10% to 15%. The mechanical
analysis of the samples indicates 14.8% to be silt siZe.~'. Please
note the samples did not reflect the fraction of material -3"+1"
The in-situ soil therefore may contain somewhat less silt than
indicated by the samples. Mr. Hatch visually estimates the
soils between 10 feet and 16 feet to contain 20%~ gravel, 35%~
silt, 45%T sand and the soils between 16 feet to 19 feet to
contain 20%~ silt. These are visual estimates, but appear suffic-
ient to derive the soils "unified classification."
It is important that no free water was observed in the test
during or immediately after drilling.
We trust this is sufficient to your immediate needs for seepage
pit analysis, although is not necessarily exhaustive of the
possibilities. Please feel free to call should questions arise
or should we be of further service as the project developes.

A water sample revealed a nitrate concentration of 7.81 milligrams per liter (mg/L).
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established a maximum
contaminant level (MCL) of 10.0 mg/L for public drinking water systems. While
private wells are not subject to this regulation, EPA standards are based on existing
health information and can therefore be used to gauge the relative quality of water
from private wells. Since nitrates are known to slowly increase, we recommend
you monitor the water quality. Please see the attached “Nitrate Fact Sheet” for
important information regarding nitrate.
This advisory must be attached to all copies of the subject Certificate of On -Site
Systems Approval.
