ENGINEERING STUDIES There is no documentation on the existing leachfield and it is AND REPORTS suspected to be encroaching groundwater. The existing septic tanks encroach on the 100' protective well radius. Groundwater monitoring within the test hole found water at 6' below WELLINSPE TION the ground surface. However, the area is known for fluctuating high groundwater levels so we've proposed a bed type leachfield to be constructed at ground level. Since the test hole was excavated on the high portion of the lot, we do not anticipate groundwater levels to rise within 4' of the ground surface. SITE PLANS The property is surrounded on three sides by roadway and a creek. The fourth side is adjacent to a developed lot with a holding tank. We do not anticipate any adverse effect on neighboring properties ROAD DESIGN by installation of the proposed upgrade. Box 4-651 Anchorage, Alaska 99509 Subject: Adequacy Test on Existing Septic System, Lot 1, Block 3, Rabbit Creek View Subdivision Dear Mr. Ruby: On August 18, 1977, at your request, we conducted a test of the septic system on the above described property. During the test, the liquid level in the septic tank was measured as water was added to the system through the standpipe. All measurements were taken from the top of the standpipe. Summary Of Measurements Level of Liquid Meter Reading Time Below Top of Standpipe in Gallons 1:50 4.65' 6327.8 3:15 4.4' 6592.8 3:35 4.4' 6592.8 The meter used during the test was a Rockwell 5/8" standard water meter, which had previously been calibrated by R & M Consultants, Inc. If it is assumed that the existing four bedroom residence on the lot will house eight people, the average load on the disposal system can be expected to be 600 gallons per day or 0.42 gallons per minute. During the test, the system accepted 265 gallons in 85 minutes, or 3.1 gallons per minute, with only a slight rise in liquid level in the septic tank. It appears that the system is disposing of effluent at a rate which is adequate for a 4 - bedroom house. For the test, 300 gallons of water were added to the system through the septic tank standpipe over a 50 -minute time period. The following table represents the level of liquid in the tank. All measurements were taken from the top to the standpipe. SUMMARY OF MEASUREMENTS Time Level of Liquid Meter Reading In Septic Tank in Gallons 10:50 3.6' 5769.3 11:01 3.5' 5794.3 11:45 3.5' 6069.3 The meter used during the test was a Rockwell 5/8" standard water meter, which had previously been calibrated by R & M Consultants, Inc. If it is assumed that the existing four bedroom residence on the lot will house eight people, the average load on the disposal system can be expected to be 600 gallons per day or 0.42 gallons per minute. During the test, the system accepted 300 gallons in 50 minutes or 6 gallons per minute with only a slight initial rise in liquid level in the tank. In a normal test situation, it would appear that the system is performing in an acceptable manner. Prior to the test, the leach field in question had been excavated and the open pit created during excavation had filled with liquid to a depth of 2.5' below the ground surface. During the test, the water level rose approximately 4 inches in the pit as water was added to the system, thus showing that the effluent from the septic tank was not percolating into the surrounding soil at the rate at which it was introduced.
