RE: SEPTIC SYSTEM UPGRADE PERMIT
LEGAL: HYLEN CREST #1 B2, L6
The property owner has requested we obtain a permit to upgrade the 4BR septic system of the
above referenced lot to a 5-bedroom septic system. We propose to install one shallow trench
with a splitter to also serve the existing 2005 trench with the recently installed 1500-gallon septic
tank. The original field will remain in place, but is undersized and will not meet MOA COSA
guidelines for a 5BR field, but can be used for an absorption field site.
The reserve site will include a remove and replace of the existing lower two fields and/or adding
an advanced wastewater system to serve either of the fields with remove and replace upgrades if
need be. The design is based on the recent test hole conducted in April 2022. Groundwater was
observed at test hole excavation and at monitoring at 12 from grade in the months of April and
May, 2022.
The slopes are moderate at 10% at the proposed upgrade location. The lot and area are served by
public water. The design will not impact any of the neighboring properties. Please contact us if

1. Soils. The soil in this area is composed of gravelly sand. A test hole had previously been dug to
!7' and ground water was found at 13' during the month of July.
Z. Soil Absorption System. There are two different trenches on this property; one installed in 1992
and a more recent one installed in 2005. They are both sized for4 bedrooms. The 2005 trench
was tested in January 2022 and found to be adequate for 4 bedrooms. The new tank will be
connected to both trenches with a diverter valve.
Wells. This lot and the surrounding lots are served by AWWU water. There are no wells within
200' of the proposed septic system. The tank is greater than 10' away from the public water line.
Neighboring Wastewater systems. lmmediate neighboring septic systems are all +10' from the
common property lines.
Surface Water: There is no surface water within 100 feet of the proposed septic tank. The
proposed tank upgrade will maintain at least 100 feet from all surface water and drainage
ditches.
Topography: The existing topography in the area of the tank has a slope of 8%.
The proposed installation will not affect the future development of this or the surrounding lots.

Septic System Upgrade

Attached please find the application and supporting documentation for upgrading the
septic system for the referenced 4 bedroom house. The existing drainfield was installed
in 1992 and is now surcharged. It is proposed to install a new drainfield and septic tank,
with a diverter valve to the old drainfield. The old tank will be removed and a new 1250
gal steel septic tank set in the same location.
The proposed design is based upon a test hole dug on July 1, 1992 by Constructing
Engineers. The proposed drainfield is located in the reserve site identified on the initial
permit. There was groundwater influx in the test hole at 13 ft during excavation, but it
was dry to the bottom of the hole (16 ft) within one week. A separation distance of 5 ft
to the water level is proposed, with the bottom of the trench 8 ft below original grade. A
percolation test conducted in a gravelly sand layer between 4.5 ft and 5.5 ft resulted in a
rate of 4 minutes per inch. An application rate of 1.2 gpd/ft= is used in the design. The
soil log and percolation test data from July 1992 is attached.
