Mr. Torkelson constructed this septic system under my supervision. During the excavation and construction process, I inspected the system four times. Your office was notified before the initial and the final inspection (7/10/94). There were 3 modifications in the field I would like to bring to your attention. The location of monitoring well #1 was relocated from the south end of the leach field to the west side of the leach field. The soil at the new location was identical to the soil identified in the original application. The new well was installed to 7.5 feet below grade. The soil at the bottom of the well was dry with no sign of moisture. I inspected the two monitoring wells on August 21. Both monitoring wells were dry. The second modification was in the amount of soil placed over the filter fabric. In the permit, I requested a layer of insulation with 2 feet of fill over the top. Mr. Torkelson requested that we substitute an additional foot of soil for the layer of insulation. As three feet of fill is the minimum requirement specified by the Municipality of Anchorage, I authorized the change. This change is shown on the bed section. The third modification was the layout of the distribution piping system. The approved design called for 3 horizontal segments branching off a single manifold on the southern edge. As built, the three horizontal, perforated segments are manifolded on both ends. This change is shown in the attached system plan. These changes will not affect the performance of the system as originally designed. Lot 75B, T15N, R1W, Section 5 .ri A narrative description of the probable impacts to properties adjacent to Lot 758 is provided below: Water Wells There are 3 water wells and a proposed well located within 200 feet of the proposed septic system. Two of the existing wells were drilled to depths of 160 feet and 167 feet. The third well, located on lot 72, is presently abandoned/out of service. The casing is open to the elements and does not have a sanitary seal. Both proposed wastewater disposal system locations are located outside the 100' radius of influence for these wells and the proposed well. The proposed wastewater disposal system should not impact any of the existing wells due to both horizontal and vertical distance to the wells. In addition, the wells on lot 72, 76, and 75A are all located slightly up -hill from the proposed wastewater disposal system locations. The proposed well is located down gradient from the proposed system and will probably be completed at a depth of 160-170 feet. Topography at the site is such that runoff from the area of the proposed disposal systems will flow directly toward the bluff and bypass the proposed well. Wastewater Disposal Systems Two wastewater disposal systems are located within 200 feet of the proposed system. The system that serves lot 76 is located just west of both proposed systems. The alternate site will allow at least a 10 foot setback from this system. The primary system will be located 70-100 feet from the lot 76 well. The wastewater disposal system that serves lot 75A is located on the southeastern side of the lot well away from the proposed system for lot 7513. The proposed wastewater disposal system should not impact either of the existing systems. Reserved Space A steep bluff cuts across the southwest corner of lot 7513. This bluff require a 50 foot setback for all wastewater disposal systems. The proposed system will be installed outside the required 50 foot setback. The proposed wastewater system will be located so that the undeveloped lot, Lot 72, will be able to be developed. Drainage The drainage in the area of the proposed wastewater disposal system and the alternate system is approximately a 5 to 6 percent slope, sloping to the southwest. The lot has a large steep bluff on the southwest corner that drops about 30 to 40 feet. The site drainage should not impact the proposed wastewater disposal locations. Absorption Field: - Remove upper soil that peres less than 3 minutes per inch. - Level bed area 15'x 50'. - Back -fill with 6 inches of drain field rock. - Manifold 3 horizontal segments of pressurized 1-1/4 inch pipe in accordance with the specifications for the laterals that follows: Laterals to be placed on 5 foot centers. Laterals are to be 45' long each. Laterals are to be centered within the bed such that 2-1/2' of drain field rock is on the perimeter of the drain field A total of 55, 3/16 inch holes are to be drilled in the three laterals. Holes are to be offset by 1.25 feet between laterals (see drawing). - Drain fold to be back-filled with drain field rock such that a minimum of 2" of rock covers the pressurized pipe. - Filter fabric to be placed over drain field rock. - 2" burial type extruded or molded polystyrene board (insulation) with 2.4 pound cuff density and 35 psi compressive strength to be placed over silt barrier. Insulation to cover entire bed area. - 2 foot of native back -fill to be placed over insulation. - Slope of mound to be 3:1. - Monitoring tube to be placed at each end of 15'x50' drain field. Head loss due to friction in pipe = 1.95x12.7=24 8 Ht = Total head loss of the distribution system: Ht = 10'+24.8'+2' = 36.8' From pump curve, 36.8' head for 20 OSI 05 HH pump, the net discharge = 33.5 gpm. Therefore assumption of 33 am discharge rate OK Required number of 3/16 inch holes in laterals: From extrapolated Table 7-13 EPA Design Manual for wastewater disposal systems, at 2 foot of head, the discharge rate per hole is .60 gpm.
