Subject: Modification to Approved Waiver Request WR85-015
Lot 5 Block 2 Eldon Subdivision
As a result of recent developments regarding the subject property
(i.e. required lengthening of the existing trench) this department
has reviewed your updated waiver request. Please consider this
letter a modification of the waivers currently in effect for the
subject property.
Your request for a waiver of the required minimum horizontal
separation distance between the absorption field on Lot 5 and
the well on Lots 3 and 4 to 99 feet has been approved. Your request
for a waiver of the minimum property line setbacks for the absorption
field has also been approved. The distance to the south property line
has been waived to 2.5 feet and the distance to the east property line
has been waived to 3 feet.
The existing septic tank, which upon inspection was found to be
1,200 gallons, is adequate for a four(4) beddrom house. The 1,250
gallon requirement is hereby waived to 1,200 gallons.

Dear Mr. Morris:
The above referenced lot has completed the required upgrade of the absorption
area as per our many previous conversations. From the inspection of the
upgraded area, the distance from the neighbors well on the east to the
nearest edge of the absorption area is 99 feet. The distance from the south
lot line to the nearest edge of the absorption area is 2.5 feet, and from the
east lot line is 3 feet. The total capacity of the septic tank was
previously calculated to be approximately 1200 gallons.
We therefore request a waiver be granted to reduce the required separation
distances as follows:
Absorption area to:
Neighbors well -- 99 feet
Lot line -- 2.5 feet
Also, we request a waiver be granted for the septic tank capacity to be
adequate for a 4 bedroom residence.

Dear Mr. Wien:
We have reviewed your request for a waiver to the required separation
distances and property line setbacks for the well and septic system
on Lot 5 Block 2 Eldon Subdivision. In light of the data presented
to this Department, the following waivers have been granted:

The separation distance between the well on the subject
lot and the septic tank on the subject lot has been waived
to 98 feet.

The separation distance between the well on the subject lot
and the septic tank on adjoining Lot 6 has been waived to
93 feet.
The separation distance between the septic tank on the subject
lot and the well on adjoining Lots 3, 4 has been waived
to 52 feet.
The ten foot property line setback between the absorption
field on the subject lot's south property line has been
waived to five feet.
A waiver for the separation distance between absorption field
on the subject lot and the well on Lots 3, 4 is not needed because
this distance was determined to meet the 100 foot separation requirement.
These waivers are valid for the existing wells and septic systems
only. Any upgrades of these systems must meet the requirements
in effect at the time of the upgrade.

Subject: Eldon Subdivision Block 2 Lot 5
Dear Mr. Morris:
On September 11, 1985, with the assistance of Newton Excavating, we
ran a metal snake into the standpipe at the end of the trench and into
the distribution line of the absorption area. With a metal detector,
we were able to locate the snake and mark on the surface the exact
location of the distribution line. Measuring 45 feet from the
standpipe along this line, we were able to locate the beginning of the
absorption area. The separation distance from this point to the
neighbor's well to the west is 102 feet.
On September 16, 1985, I inspected the exposed septic tank to verify
its condition. The septic tank is a steel tank measuring 4 feet in
diameter and 12 feet in length for a total capacity of approximately
1200 gallons. The inlet pipe, where it connects to the septic tank,
was damaged by the excavator while exposing the tank. This was
repaired by welding a new piece directly to the tank, and connecting
the existing cast iron inlet pipe to it with a watertight caulder
coupling. The outlet pipe on the septic tank was grouted around the
entire joint with cement. This was completely exposed and showed no
evidence of leakage.
From these two inspections, we have verified the required separation
distance from the absorption area to the neighbors well, and the
integrity of the septic tank. We feel there is no danger of
contamination to the neighbor's water supply system. If you have any

RE: Lot 5, Block 2, Eldon Subdivision
The above referenced lot consists of a 3-bedroom trailer with a concrete
block basement. Its sewage disposal system was installed in 1972. A
new upgraded system was installed on 63~gu_P~ 17, ~981. The new system is
a drainfield with a length of 45 feet, width 5 feet, and gravel depth of
4 feet and total depth of 6 ft., giving it a total of 450 square feet of
absorption area. The existing septic tank is being used° The soils log
dated August 6, 1981 shows soils from 1 to 6 feet as being SP rated at
150 square feet per bedroom.
There is no well log available for the water supply system, therefore
the original drilling date is unknown° A recent well drillers report
shows the well to be 85 feet deep.
On August 8, 1985, we performed an adequacy test, well flow test and
Health Authority on the subject lot. The Adequacy and Well Flow Test
results are attached. The HAA shows that the separation distance from
the subject well to the septic tank is 98 feet. Separation distance
from the well to the septic tank on the adjoining lot to the east is 93
feet. The well on the adjoining lot to the west is 52 feet from the
subject lot's septic tank, and approximately 75-80 feet from the nearest
edge of the absorption area. Also, the absorption area end standpipe is
5.5 feet from the property line.
The lots in this area are quite small. The subject lot is approximately
60 feet by 200 feet. Because of the extremely small size of the lots in
the area, and the shallow depth of the asorptlon field, we request a
waiver be granted to reduce the separation distances as follows:
Well to:
1. Septic tank on Lot - 98 feet.
2. Septic tank on adjoining lot - 93 feet.
