All construction shall be in accordance with:
1. The attached approved design.
2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska
Wastewater Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80)
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation. The engineer shall notify the Development
Services Department per AMC 15.65. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24/7).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather
shall be either:
a. Opened and Closed on the same day, or
b. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing

The Engineer is required to do an additional percolation test prior to construction of the septic field in the location
shown on the site plan. Please submit stamped and signed results with the As -built Inspection Report. If the
results require a design change, construction of the system will stop pending On -Site review and approval.

Project NarraƟve/DescripƟon:
Contour Acres Block 1 Lot 9, beƩer known as 5001 Country Club Lane, is an exisƟng 5 bedroom
residenƟal property. Based on available as-built informaƟon, the residence has an exisƟng sepƟc system
that consists of two (2) sepƟc tanks connected in series to a Crib and a secƟon of Deep Trench
absorpƟon field. The First sepƟc tank is the original 1000 gallon tank that was installed for the property
in 1971. This tank was connected to a Crib seepage pit. The system was retrofiƩed in 1982 to add an
addiƟonal 500 gallon sepƟc tank and install 72 LF of deep trench absorpƟon field.
The ExisƟng system is 43+ years old and failing. For this reason, the system will be
decommissioned per the Uniform Plumbing Code and a new system will be installed per the design
calculaƟons that follow.
A soil invesƟgaƟon was conducted on site on August 16th, 2025. A Single test hole was advanced
and a percolaƟon test was performed. The Test hole was excavated to a depth of 16 feet and indicated 1
foot of Organics/top soil above GM and ML soils to a depth of 16 feet. No water table or bedrock was
observed during the soil test. The PercolaƟon rate was determined to be 40 minutes/inch. See included
Soils Log PercolaƟon Test Report by Mike N Anderson dated 8/18/2025.
The ExisƟng Private Water Well for the property is located within the garage of the exis Ɵng
building. A 100 foot well protecƟon radius is shown on the proposed construcƟon plans.
Design CalculaƟons
Flow Rate: 5 Bedroom Main Residence at 150GPD/Bedroom
- Design Flow = 5 bedroom X 150 GPD/bedroom = 750 GPD
SepƟc Tank Size: Minimum Tank Size shall be 1000 gallons plus 250 gallons for each bedroom over 3 per
AMC 15.65.205
- 1000 + (250x2) = 1500 gallons
PercolaƟon Rate: Soil TesƟng indicated a percolaƟon rate of 40 min/inch.
ApplicaƟon Rate:
- Per AMC 15.65.210 Table 2 for ConvenƟonal Subsurface Disposal Fields, The ApplicaƟon Rate
for soils with percolaƟon rates of 31-60 Minutes/inch shall be 0.45 gallons/day/square foot.
- Design ApplicaƟon Rate: 0.45 gallon/day/square foot
Drainfield Area:
- (750 gallons/day) / (0.45 gallon/day/square foot) = 1666.66 Square Feet
Drainfield Design: Deep Trench
1. The EffecƟve AbsorpƟon area of deep trenches is calculated as the area of the sidewalls below
the invert of the distribuƟon pipe.
- Required EffecƟve AbsorpƟon Area = Length of Trench x EffecƟve Depth x 2
2. An EffecƟve Depth of 8 feet will be uƟlized for this site.
3. Minimum Trench Length: L = 1666.66/8/2 = 104.17 = 105 feet
a. Lateral Length = per AMC 15.65.210.E.1, Single Segments of Subsurface disposal fields
shall not exceed 100 feet in length.
4. Design Trench Length: Since the Maximum trench length cannot exceed 100 feet, there will be
two trenches, each 53 feet in length.

Dear Mr. Syverson:
We checked the level of liquid /n the crib at the house
on ]Pt 9 b]Dck 1 Contour Acres. There is approximately 25% of
free space /n the crib. I would assume that this would be
approximately equivalent to one bedroom. One can't really
tell unless an adequacy t_.~Tc_ Js run on the c~ib.
As the system is relatively old, I would recommend that
additional trench equivalent to the ,]]eJmate size of the home
less one bedroom be installed.
