The investigation complied with those procedures required by the Municipality of Anchorage Department of Health and Environmental Protection. This investigation which was accomplished on June 30, 1977, consisted of three test holes. Test Hole 1 was excavated to a total depth of 12.5 feet below ground surface, Test Hole 2 was excavated to a total depth of ll.O feet below ground surface and, Test Hole 3 was excavated to a total depth of 15.0 feet below ground surface. The test holes were sited according to your instructions and their locations are shown in attached Drawing A-O1. Excavation was accomplished with a backhoe. Ail material excavated was monitored by an experienced engineering geologist. The topography at the excavation site was generally gently-sloping to the southwest. At the time of the investigation the site had original vegetation consisting of medium sized birch trees. The top of the test holes were located at original ground surface. The~s0ils encountered in the excavations are shown in the test hole logs in Drawings A-O1 and A-02. The symbols used in Drawings A-O1 and A-O2 are exp-tained in Drawings B-01 and B-02. The logs display specific conditions encountered at the test locations. However, subsurface conditions may vary in other parts of the lots without any apparent surficial evidence of the change. Groundwater was encountered in Test Hole 1 at a depth of 11.5 feet. Bedrock was not encountered in any of the test holes. At the time the holes were excavated, seasonal frost was not present and permafrost was not encountered. Based on the visual classification of the soils encountered and the requirements set forth by the Municipality of Anchorage, percolation tests were not necessary within any of the test holes on the subject lots.
