1. The attached approved design.
2. All requirements specified in Anchorage Municipal code Chapters 15.55 and 15.65 and the State of Alaska Wastewater
Disposal Regulations (18AAC72) and Drinking Water Regulations (18AAC80).
3. The wastewater code requires inspections during the installation, The engineer must notify the Development Services
Department at least 2 hours prior to each inspection. Provide notification by calling (907) 343-7904 (24 hours).
4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather must either:
A. Open and Close on the same day.
B. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing.
Special Provisions:
1. The entire subsurface disposal field and/or alternate is not within a 30 foot radius of a
percolation test. The Engineer needs to do an additional percolation test prior to the construction
of the septic field. Please submit stamped and signed results with the As -built Inspection Report.
If the results require a design change, construction of the system will stop pending On -Site review
and approval. AMC 15.65.060.6.3

Mr. Crewdson,
The subject property is served by a community well and a private septic system consisting of a
1250 gallon septic tank and a bed type drainfield. The septic system is in a state of failure and
needs to be upgraded. We are proposing to excavate the contaminated material, build up to the
same elevation with M.O.A. approved filter sand and rebuild the drainfield in place. The
original 1983 testhole does not appear to be near the existing septic site. A new testhole was
excavated on 6/8/2015 as close to the existing bed as feasible (within 30' of the proposed
upgrade site). The testhole justifies the rebuilding of this drainfield. The design narrative is
summarized as follows:
GENERAL SITE PLAN AND SEPARATIONS: All surrounding properties are served by a
community well on Chandelle Acres Lot 15 (PWSID #213807). The well is over 200 feet from
the proposed septic upgrade. There are no adjacent surface waters within 100 feet of the
proposed septic upgrade. The drainfield is over 10 feet from the property lines as well.
SOIL CONDITIONS: See the attached soils log and percolation test data. Based upon the
percolation rates, observation of the depth of the existing system and the 5/17/1983 soils log, we
are proposing an application rate of 0.4 gpd/ft2.
DRAINFIELD DESIGN: The existing drainfield is stated to be 31'x50'(+/-) on the 5/30/1983
inspection report. Based upon visual observation of the vegetation and the testhole location, it is
unlikely that the drainfield is actually sized as such. We are proposing to replace the tank in a
new location and rebuild a 30'x50' bed as shown in the following design drawings.
For an alternate site, the existing bed could be rebuilt in place again in the future. Also, the soil
conditions encountered in the 2015 testhole provides for an alternate site using advanced
treatment.
WAIVER: The proposed width is over 15 feet. We request you waive the bed width
requirement from 15 feet to 30 feet. Care will be taken during construction to keep the

equipment from driving over the drainfield footprint. Also, because the system was originally
permitted and approved this way, we request that you waive the fee associated with this waiver.
TOPOGRAPHY: The topography in the direct area of the existing bed is 0-5%, sloping from
southeast to northwest. The proposed drainfield upgrade will be over 50 feet from a cutbank on
the property. In short there are no slope concerns.
