4. From October 15 to April 15, a subsurface soil absorption system under construction during freezing weather must either:
A. Open and Close on the same day.
B. Covered, sealed, and heated to prevent freezing.
Special Provisions: The permit includes waiver OSP131076 allowing the drainfield to be 35 feet
from a 25% or greater slope.

Ref: Proposed Septic Upgrade for Four Ways; Block 1, Lot 1;
To whom it may concern:
The existing 3 bedroom house is served by a private well and septic system. The existing septic system is
in a state of failure and needs to be upgraded. We are proposing to install a new 1000 gallon septic tank
and a deep trench type drainfield. One test hole was excavated on the property. The drainfield will be
designed around the 30 foot radius of this test hole. Comments regarding the design are summarized as
follows:
1. SOILS: See the attached log which shows the soil classifications, groundwater monitoring, and the
percolation test results. We are proposing to use the existing insitu sandy soils as a sand filter (see
attached soil sample).
2. DRAINFIELD DESIGN: See attached design drawing for drainfield specifications.
3. SURFACE WATERS: There are no surface waters within 100 feet of the proposed septic system.
4. TOPOGRAPHY & SLOPE WAIVER: As can be seen on the attached topo drawing the topography
around the drainfield is 35% running southeast to northwest. All slopes greater than 25%, and within 35
feet of the proposed drainfield will be filled in with soil, to create a slope no greater than 25%. In short,
we are requesting your department issue a 35 foot waiver to a slope greater than 25%. As can be seen on
the attached drawing, at a 25% slope (starting 2.5 feet above the drainfield) the potential point of
daylighting is greater than 50' horizontally from the drainfield.
We are unaware of any adverse impacts this installation would have on adjacent wells or septic systems.

Dear Mr. Best:
We are submitting herewith the test boring results and our comments
regarding soil conditions encountered at the subject site. This in-
vestigation was performed in accordance with your request of February 2,
1977, and those procedures outlined in a letter dated July 15, 1975,
by Mr. Rolf Strickland of the Municipality of Anchorage Department of
Environmental Quality.
A single test hole was put down within the subject site area for the
purpose of defining general subsurface soil conditions for the proposed
sanitary system. Excavation was accomplished with an auger type
drilling rig and the test hole was extended to a total depth of 20
feet below ground surface. The final log prepared for the test hole
has been included in Drawing A-01.
Groundwater was not encountered in the test hole while drilling.

A sewer system adequacy test was performed on the system
located on the referenced property as you requested.
The septic tank was pumped and verified to have a capacity
in excess of 1000 gallons. The absorption trench was
tested by a continuous flow of 493 gallons of water
over a period of 24 hours without any adverse effect
on the system.
Tt can be concluded from this test that the waste water
disposal system serving the three bedroom .residence
located on this property is currently functioning adequately.
However, the system cannot be guaranteed against subsequent
failures.
