RE: Alpine Terrace Block 4 Lot 9A — Septic System Upgrade
A permit is requested to replace a septic tank and soil absorption system for the subject property. The
proposed system will serve an existing 4-bedroom, single-family home. An active tank replacement
permit, OSP241335, was previously issued on this property but in the course of work, it has been
determined a new soil absorption system is required. Work is currently paused as this change order is
being designed and reviewed.
Wells
The subject property is served by an existing private water well. Neighboring parcels are served by private
water wells. There are no wells within 100' of the designed septic system.
Soils
AK Built Construction & Design, LLC (AK Built) observed a test hole, performed a percolation test, and
groundwater monitoring on October 101h, 2024. Groundwater was not encountered in TH-01 (13.5' BGS).
Groundwater was not observed at least seven (7) days later. Research of historical records on this parcel
and neighboring parcels do not indicate ground water is prevalent in the area at depths that would impact
the proposed system. The percolation rate in TH-01 was faster than 1 minute per inch. An application rate
of 0.7 gallons/day/square feet shall be used for a conventional wastewater system with filter sand.
Wastewater disposal systems
The designed wastewater disposal system is a bed system with 6" of sewer rock below the pipe invert and
a 24" sand filter. The designed system has the following characteristics.
# Bedrooms: 4
Daily Design Flow: 600 gallons/day
Tank Size: 1,250 gallons
Percolation Rate: 0.38 minutes/inch
Soil Rating: 0.7 gallons/day/square feet
Field Area Required: 857.14 square feet
System Type: Bed System
Width: 20 feet
Minimum Length: 42.86 feet
Designed Length: 45 feet
Designed Field Area: 900 square feet
Maximum Excavation Depth (from existing ground) Allowed: 7.5 feet

AK BUILT CONSTRUCTION & DESIGN, LLC
GENERAL CONTRACTING - ENGINEERING - PROJECT ADMINISTRATION
AMC 15.65.210 D. 2. c. states the width of a bed system shall not exceed fifteen feet without approval
from the department. AK Built is requesting approval from the department to allow the bed system to be
constructed at a width of twenty feet. Allowing a twenty -foot width allows the designed system to
maintain separation distances from property lines and maintain a fifty -foot setback from steep slopes.
The proposed bed system has access from all four sides to aid in constructability. Tracking of equipment
shall not be allowed across the bottom of the proposed bed system.
Existing disposal site
The existing disposal site located on the subject parcel does not match historical records for materials
used in construction. During tank excavation work under the active permit, the existing disposal field was
found to be constructed of a corrugated French drain plastic pipe, septic rock was not of the appropriate
material, no silt barrier was used, and bio-matting has occurred around the system. Neighboring parcels
with existing disposal sites do not impact the subject parcel and the proposed system will not negatively
impact neighboring parcels.
Drainage
There is no surface water located within 100' of the designed system.
Topography
The designed system is in the west half of the subject property. The surrounding property slopes from
southeast to northwest. Steep slopes exist in the vicinity of the designed system, as shown in the plans.
The proposed bed system is installed on a slope less than ten percent. Final grading of the bed system
shall be at a slope not greater than a 3H:1V (33%).
The designed system does not have probable adverse impacts to adjacent properties.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Robert Colles, PE

Subject: ALPINE TERRACE BLK 4 LT 9A tank permit
Robert,
I relooked at this again.
1975 permit was for a 4 bedroom system
Soil rating 85 sf/bf
Effective depth 6'
Minimum trench length 28.3333333'
28.3333333333' x 2 x 6' = 340 sf
340 sf / 85 sf/br = 4 bedrooms
Nov 1975 inspection report
1250 gallon septic tank
28' length
7' effective depth
28'x2x7'=392sf
392 sf / 85 sf/br = 4.6 bedrooms
1999 permit and inspection report were incorrect in stating this is a 5 bedroom system. True a 1500 gallon septic
tank was installed, but the system is limited by the field size. This house is served by a 4 bedroom system.
2024 permit for a new tank — if a minimum 1250 gallon septic tank is installed, then this will be rated as a 4
bedroom septic system.

Subject: Alpine Terrace tank permit
Existing field is sized for 5 bedrooms. If you install a 1500 gal tank, then the system will be a 5 bedroom system.
The application should be for the number of bedrooms the septic system is sized for, not the number of bedrooms
in the house.
This is the one where it might be a good idea now to locate the missing MT in the field.
