Dear Nr. Robbins:
TransmitCed herein, in accordance with our instructions are
results of the abowe referenced investigation as performed by
us on July 29 and August 3, 1976. The scope of this project
is investigation for suitability of an on-site sewerage system.
Included in this transmittal are:

The exploration was conducted using a Nodwell mounted. Mobile
Drill Model B-50 drill rig with a continuous flight solid stem
auger. ~'he rig is owned and operated by Denali Drilling, Inc.
Drilling was superwLsed, the test holes logged and percolation
test performed by Mr. Terry Barber, Geologist with Alaska
Testlab.
The test hole was placed at the approximate location shown on
Figure 2. The log of 'this test hole is included as Table A
of this report. In interpreting the log, it would be helpful
to utilize the explanatory ,information contained in Sheets
1 to 3 of this repozt.
When drill.lng was comp]_eted a 3/4" slotted PVC pipe was inserted
in the hole 'to aid in determining the free water lev 1.
For the perco].atio~] test, the test hole was filled, with water
and ].eft overnight: to saturate. On returning the next day,
the hole was refill, cd with water and the drop in the water
level carefully monitored over the ]'text 60 minutes.
This procedure J.s not a s'tandardized percolation testt however,
we understand that ~}'~e Anchorage Department of Environmeuhal
Quali'hy prefers L-csts performed in %his manner 'ho evaluate a
site for a prol)osed on--site sewer.
Using the above test, the observed minimum percol~t~gn~rate
was 30.0 minutes per inch, though th~ test was very eratic and
~could even be lower.
No water was observed during drilling, but it should be noted
that the free water level normally fluctuates seasonally and
with precipitation.

water tight.

An adequacy test needs to be performed on the existing
leaching area. This test will determit%e if the system is
adequate according to National Standards. A listing of
private firms performing the test is enclosed. This report
needs to be submitted to this office for our review.
Please notify this Department for a reinspection when the
noted discrepancies have been corrected. If there are any
further questions, please call this office at 264-4720.

Adequacy Test of Absorption Highlands

Dear Mr. Rink:
As per your request, I have performed an adequacy test on the absorp-
tion system at the above legally described residence in accordance
with the Municipality of Anchorage recommended procedures.
Municipality records show that the system was installed in 1977 and
a 1250 gallon tank was installed with 50 feet of trench. The field
inspection revealed that this was accurate information and all
standpipes were above grade and in good condition.
Water was added to the system at approximately five g.p.m, until
600 gallons had been added and the levels monitored regularily for '
three consecutive days and the results are tabulated herein. The
test results indicate that the system is functioning very close to
the limits of adequacy for a four-bedroom home. Although the level
at the end of the trench returned to within 2 inches of the original
level after the second day of testing, it built up to the overflow
point when 600 gallons had been added.
Strictly speaking in accordance with the test requirements the system
did not function up to the recommended standards. However, it is
functioning very closely to the limits of adequacy and i would recom-
mend that the Municipality not require an upgrade at this time.
