Subject: Soils investigation for sanitary sewer system on Lot 5, Block 3, Aspen Highlands
Subdivision, Anchorage, Alaska.
Dear Mr. Zivanich:
At your request of March 9, 1979, I conducted a soils investigation at the proposed
location of a sanitary sewer system on the subject lot. This investigation, which was
accomplished on March 12, 1979, consisted of the inspection of soils removed during
drilling of two test holes, using 6 inch diameter solid flight augers, powered by a
Mobile B-50 drill rig, mounted on a Nodwell tracked vehicle. Test Hole No. 1 was drilled
to a total depth of 18.0 feet and Test Hole-No. 2 was drilled to a total depth of 5.5 feet.
After completion of drilling, Test Hole No. 2 was filled with water and a percolation test
performed. The results of this test are tabulated on an accompanying sheet.
The soils encounterd are graphically shown on the accompanying test hole boring logs. The
soils consisted of a layer of Organics and Peat 1.0 feet thick, overlying a Gravel with
some Sand and Silt 10.0 feet thick, underlain by a Sand with a trace Gravel to a total
depth of 18.0 feet.
No water table was encountered.
The topography of the lot consists of a gentle to moderate slope in a southerly direction.
Vegetation present on the subject lot consists of scattered to dense spruce with an
occasional birch to 30 to 40 feet tall, with some alders and willows to 8 feet tall, with
a low ground cover of grasses and some mosses.
An accompanying sketch shows the subject lot with the approximate locations of the test
holes in relation to the property lines.
I apperciate the opportunity to be of service to you. Please contact me if you have any
questions regarding this soils investigation.
Very truly yours,

Percolation test performed on March 13, 1979, using Test Hole No. 2, by filling the 6 inch
diameter, 5.5 feet deep test hole (test hole had cuttings remaining in hole from 4.0 feet
to 5.5 feet depth) with water, and measuring the water level drop periodically for one hour.
