HE Project # 05065 Dear Mr. Goodall: On behalf of Walter & Sarah Parks, we are requesting your department's approval to construct a replacement wastewater disposal system. The system will serve a 3 -bedroom home at the referenced site. The owners report that the existing system is in a state of failure and causing ongoing back-ups, which is corroborated by our field measurements. Please see the attached drawing for the site layout. Existing Conditions Lot 4 presently contains a 3 -bedroom single family home. As noted in your file's record information, soils are silty sands and gravels, with organic and silt topsoil. At the proposed septic site, surface grade slopes to the West at 2-3%. Just off of the lotline to the East is an area with a slope which may exceed 25%; however the area is over 50' from the proposed trench. Plan Review Fee Based on a conversation with your office staff, plan review fees will be $460 for this design. A check or cash for that amount will be included with this submittal. Wastewater Disnosal System - Existing According to records, the existing system consists of a single 1,000 gallon steel tank with a deep absorption trench. The system was installed 20 years ago, and old testhole/GWT information is minimal. Our construction plan includes abandoning the tank by pumping the liquid, crushing the steel structure and filling in place with onsite soils; alternately, the tank will be removed from the site and disposed of at an approved facility. Much of the existing piping will be removed or disconnected and abandoned. W. Padcs.doc 10/03/05 p.1/1 Reolacement Wastewater Disposal System Due to the depth of the sewer fine exiting the building, a lift station will be required. A total of 3 bedrooms will be served by the new system. Septic tan k. A standard Anchorage Tank/OSI 1,250 -gallon, two-compartment steel septic tank meeting ADEC and MOA standards is specified. ABS 4" pipe materials are specified for lines from the building to the tank, and for standpipes. The transit pressure line will be 1.25" Schedule 40 PVC. rainfi Id Based on two percolation tests (10.2 & 15.5 minfinch) and a conversation with Jeff Poet, the silty/sandy soils would be rated at 188 WBR. Our own conservative sizing practices call for 250-275 ft'BR. At 4.2'effective depth by 100' long, the planned trench will have 840 W of absorption area. At the start of construction, the groundwater levels will be checked again and the effective depth adjusted if necessary. In any event, the installed area will easily exceed the 188 W rating. Please see the attached drawings for details. Pressure Distribution. See the attached calculations page for sizing and spacing of holes in the dispersion pipes. At your preference, both ends of the distribution line can either be capped and marked with a rebar, or turned straight up to the surface and contained within a 4" liner pipe. Inspections. As always, Holler Engineering will be visiting the site several times during construction to verify materials and methods, and obtain adequate asbuilt information. Our normal inspection program exceeds the MOA level requirements, and we will provide +2 hour notice to your office before inspections. Supportine Documents Two testhole/percolation test reports and other supporting documents are enclosed. At this point, we are requesting your approval to construct the replacement wastewater disposal system as soon as possible. Using the Orifice Equation, assume Cd = 0.6, use 3/16" orifice holes with a 5' pressure drop at the orifice: Q = Cd•A' 4(29M A = orifice area, H = head(ft), g = gravity(32.2ft/sec/sec) Q = (0.6)•(0.000192)• 4(2.32.2.5) Q = 0.00207 cubic ft/second Q — 0.93 GPM per orifice Calculate number of orifice holes: (30 GPM)/(0.93 GPM/hole) = 32 holes total Assume bleed -back hole in tank equals (1) holes, need +31 total in laterals, add 4 additional to compensate for any stone blockage. Use 35 holes total. Spacing: For 75 holes, the 100' lateral pipe run will contain 35 holes. Space at 34". Place first hole 6" from end. Use a new high-speed steel drill bit. Alternate holes right -left 'Wi of pipe, with first and last holes for each lateral oriented straight down. Provide burr -free holes drilled at 45" offset from bottom of pipe.
