DATE RECEIVED April 2, 1980 COMMENT TO PLANNING BY April 23, 1980 FOR MEETING OF CASE OF ~ PUBLIC WATER NOT AVAILABLE TO PETITION AREA ~ PUBLIC SEWER NOT AVAILABLE TO PETITION AREA REVIEWER'S COMMENTS: 71-014 (Rev. 2/78) 4040 "B" STREET ANCHORAGE, ALASKA 99503 (907) 278-1551 November 9, 1978 W.O. I~A18703 Grid t~2738 Alaska Land Development Services 4546 Business Park Blvd. Anchorage, AK 99503 Attention: Subject: Steve Brown Subsurface Investigation for Ravenswood Subdivision the Proposed Dear Steve: As requested, %~e have completed the preliminary soils work for the above project. This investigation includes sixteen test holes. Transmitted with this report are the following: Vicinity Map Figure 1 · Test Hole Location Sketch .Figure 2 ' Test Hole Logs Table A Explanatory Information Sheets 1-3 Grain Size Distribution Curves Sheets 4-8 Exploration was conducted on October 30th through November 1, 1978. A Nodwell mounted B-50 rig owned and operated by Denali Drilling, Inc. was used for the exploration. The rig was equipped with a solid flight auger. Exploration was supervised and the test holes logged by Mr. O.M. Hatch, geolbgist/senior technician with Alaska Testlab. Percolation tests were performed by Mr. T.K. Krupka, technician with Alaska Testlab. Table A is a log of the test holes reflec- ting field ~bservations and visual classification of the soils. Test hole locations are shown on Figure 2. The ground surface was wet in areas shaded on Figure 2. Within the wet areas, we do not believe on-site sewage disposal systems could be successfully operated. It is our opinion that outside the shaded areas, the site will be suitable to the use of on-site sewage disposal systems. S.5 '7 1980 Alaska Land Development Services Nov~nber 9, 1978 Page 2 Four percolation tests were performed. For the tests, when drilling was completed, a 3/4" slotted PVC pipe was inserted in the hole. Before the tests were performed, holes were checked for any free water. The hole was then filled with water and left overnight to saturate. Upon returning the next day, the hole was refilled with water and the drop in the water level carefully monitored over the next 60 minutes. Using the abgve test, percolation rates were as follows: Required Test Hole Rate sf/Bedroom 2 4.4 120 3 4.4 120 7 20..0 215 9 8.9 155 Free ground water, where observed, is noted on the test hole logs. It should be realized that the free water level may fluctuate seasonally or with percipitation. It is trusted the above meets your present requirements and is sufficient for planning purposes. If you have any questions of if we may be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. Very sincerely, ALASKA TESTLAB R. Mark Hansen Approved: Melvin R.
