The septic system was installed in 1978 under permit # 780475. A well log was submitted to the Health Department in 1978, but an As Built report on the septic system was not. The property owner is applying for a building permit and needs documentation that the septic system is approved by DHSS. On October 22, 1996 the system was exposed by the use of a rubber tired backhoe. The configuration of the system is as shown. The total trench length is 62 feet more or less, at three different locations we found five feet of sewer rock under the perforated pipe. Cover was four feet. We observed water in only one of the three segments of the leach field. Monitor "E" had 2 feet of sludge while the trench from "D" to "F" was dry. We located one standpipe for the septic tank. We did not determine if the tank was one or two comparm~ents. One compartment tanks were acceptable in 1978. Based on our observations, the total absorption area is 620 sq ft more or less. The permit from 1978 specified a system 12 feet deep, with 7 feet of rock and a total length of 46 feet. Total required absorption area was 640 sq ft., based on a soil rating of 160. The system is more than capable of disposing of the waste generated from this residence, as witnessed by the lack of effluent in 2/3 of the drainfield. Please approve this system. Yours T.
