Design Narrative: The owner of the 3 -bedroom home would like to replace the existing STEP tank.
The existing STEP tank will be decommissioned in-place or removed and disposed of in accordance with
the code. It will be replaced with a 1250 -gallon or larger new STEP tank in accordance with the code. The
existing foundation cleanout will be inspected and repaired as needed to be in compliance with the code.
There are no anticipated, probable adverse impacts to adjacent properties if the septic tank upgrade is
constructed as designed.
Existing Waiver Request: The existing steel STEP tank has a 65 -foot waiver to the private well. We are
requesting the proposed STEP tank be allowed to use the existing 65 -foot waiver. The mitigating reasons
are shown below.
1. The well is in good condition and was found to be in compliance with the code during recent COSA
inspections and testing. The COSA application was submitted concurrently with this STEP tank
upgrade permit application and waiver request.
2. The tall water column in the well (156' total depth — 46' static level = 110 feet), and the related
high pressure (50.6 -psi) demonstrates that the well is piercing through very tight confining soil
layers into,a confined aquifer. As such, it is highly unlikely that any pollution originating from the
proposed STEP tank could penetrate down through the confining soils to reach the aquifer below.
3. The new plastic STEP tank is a long -life tank that is much less likely to develop leaks than the
existing steel STEP tank. `�1���\Z�
