The attached site plan identifies the location of the home as well as the existing well and septic location. No conflicts exist between this proposed system and any other well or septic system, whether on this lot or adjacent lots. The ground surface on the lot slopes down from the road in the front, and drops off on the southwest corner of the lot. It appears that there was significant fill brought in for a pad when this lot was originally developed. The central area of the pad, though, is relatively flat. There are no slopes greater than 25% within 50 feet downslope of either the primary site. Contours are shown on the site plan showing the grade and direction of flow. Stormwater drainage will not impact this septic system. The new trench will be constructed parallel to the slope as much as possible. This lot had a standard septic system several decades ago, but when that failed a holding tank was installed. The high groundwater and fill prevented the installation of another standard septic system. With new advanced treatment, we are able to design a working system for this lot. Wells on this and adjacent lots are shown. The new system will be a minimum of 50’ from all wells and surface water. Please refer to the attached test hole logs, plan and profile pages for the septic design. If this design is followed, there will be no adverse impacts to adjacent properties. This includes an annual maintenance fee (typically S400 to S600). Owner agrees that only maintenance and repair personnel approved by the Municipality OF the manufacturer's representative will inspect and make any necessary maintenance, repairs or permitted alterations to the. system. DHHS had some serious concern about the conditions at the location identified by me. On reexamination I found standing water adjacent to my testhole and groundwater at 2 feet below the surface. I have to agree that the location is not suitable. In order to evaluate the area along the North lot line I excavat- ed two testholes today. Unfortunately I found the same condi- tions as in the first testhole. Impervious silt at 6 feet, a layer of sand/gravel with a thickness of less than two feet, and three feet of silt and organics on top. In both testholes groundwater was observed at four feet. Based on these observations (5 testholes) I must conclude that a holding tank is the only solution to your septic problem at this time. I have revised the submittal to the Municipally to reflect this. Hopefully the expansion of public sewer services or advancement in onsite disposal technology will provide you with a long term solution in the near future.
