Since the measured pemolation rate is faster than 1 minute per inch, a soil absorption bed is required with a 2 foot thick sand filter. The specified bed application rate of 0.7 gpd/sq, ft. dictates that the basal area be 643 square feet, which can be achieved by the 15' wide by 43' long soil absorption bed depicted on the plans. Because of its central location in the lot, the present pit well serving the residence will be properly abandoned and a new well di'illed at the location shown which is more than 100 feet from the proposed septic system components. The proposed septic system is not expected to have any impact on m~y remaining water supply wells or wastewater disposal systems in the area. The soil test holes demonsn'ate that there is ample room remaining on the lot both to the east and to the west of the proposed system to allow construction of replacement systems in the event this one should fail. Minor deviations from these drawings may be allowed or required by the engineer conducting the inspections. Ail construction procedures and material specifications shall conform with Municipal and State requirements. 1.3 All separation distances, including file 10 foot setback fi'om the building foundation, shall be in confmrnance with Municipal requh'ements, unless specifically waived. 1.4 The contractor shall be responsible to obtain necessary utility locates, and to work arouud any buried utilities. 2.0 Septic Tank: 2.1 Tlie existing septic tank shall be pumped crushed and buried on site 2.2 The new septic tank shall be Municipally approved with a minimum of two compartments, and shall be set level on undisturbed soil. Each compartment shall be equipped with a watertight manhole cover and a 4" cleanout. If the tank is buried less than 4 feet, it shall be insulated with 2 inches of approved burial type, rigid insulation. 2.3 All pipe connections to the tank shall be equipped with waterproof mechanical couplings. The waste line from the residence to the septic tank shall have a minimum slope of 1/4'" per foot, and the waste line between the tank and the soil absorption system shall have a minimftm slope of 1/8" per foot. A cleanout shall be installed within 5 feet of the building foundation, and a double cleanout shall be installed within 5 feet downstream of the septic tank. 2.4 The portion of the waste line between the house and the septic tank which passes under the driveway shall have a minimum burial depth of 4 feet and shall be insulated on the top and sides with 4 inches of rig/d, buriai type foam insulation. 3.0 Soil absorption system: 3.1 The soil absorption system shall be constructed by removing all the surface material down to a depth of 7 feet to create the 15' wide by 43' loug bed surface. 3.2 The bottom of the excavation shall be level. 3.3 Two feet of filter sand shall be placed in the bed bottom to create a new level surface 5 feet below natural ground elevation. Sand for leveling or serving as filter material Shall comply with Municipal specifications. 3.4 A total of 12 inches of sewer gravel shall be placed on top of the sand, with the perforated distribution pipes laid level such that the bottom of the pipes is no less than 6 inches above the top of the filter aanrl - . gcreenecl ¢~r~veI with le~ than 3% naa~inr~ tile #200 ~ieve 3.5 Monitor tubes and cleanout pipes shall be of 4" diameter and installed in the locations shown on the design drawings. The portioo of the mooitor tube extending through the sewer gravel shall be perforated. 3.6 Approved filter fabric shall be placed over the enth'e top surface of the sewer gravel. 3.7 The top surface of the cover material shall be raised a minimum of 6 iuches higher than the smrounding ten'ain to allow for subsequent settlement, and shall be graded to smooth contours. Fill slopes shall be no steeper than 3:1. 5.0 Inspections: 5.1 A total of 5 engineering inspections will be required dm'ing the course of the project: (1) initial stakeout with the contractor to establish the location of the system andto discuss the plans, specifications and construction procedures, (2) after the native material has been excavated to expose the infilu'ative surface to ensm'e that it is level and at the fight elevation, and confo~TnS with the soil test information, (3) after the sand filter material has been placed, (4) after the sewer gravel:is in place and the distribution pipes have been laid and connected up to the septic tank, but prior to placement of insulation or filter fabric, and (5) after final backfill and gu'ading is complete. The septic tank requires one inspection after it is set level .and the piping connected, but prior to backfill This inspection may bd incmporated with any of the above inspections. 5.2 The installer shall coordinate the timing of the inspections with the eugineer sufficiently far in advance to ensm'e the availability of the engineer. Flattop Technical Services 14530 Echo Street, Anchorage, AK 99516 Phone (907) 345-1355 Lot 147, Section 33, T12N, R3W 14941 Old Seward Itighway Water Well Replacement Specifications 1.1 The scope of the project includes the formal abandonment of the existing well serving the residence and the drilling of a new well including ali related plumbing to allow it to serve the residence. 1.2 All construction practices and material specifications shall be in confo~rnance with Municipal and State requirements. 1.3 The existing "pit well" shall be abandoned by removing the pump and completely filing the casing with concrete. The top of the casing shall be cut off at least 43 feet below final grade. The concrete used to fill the casing shall also spill out over the top, thereby forming a wate~Xight cap around the top of the casing. The well pit shall then be completely filled with unclassified s0il, with the final surface mounded at least six inches above the sun'ounding ten'ain. 1.4 A new well with a standm'd 6" diameter steel casing shall be di~illed in the approximate location shown on the site plan. The well shall have a minimum yield of 3 gpm. 1.5 The project shall result in a complete functional water system and includes the installation of a pitless adapter and a new waterline fi'om the well to the residence. The pump from the original well and the pressure tank may be used if they are found to be in serviceable condition. If the yield of the well is such that pumping 100 gallons of water from the well at 7 gpm would cause the well to run ch'y, then an appropriate pump protection control shall be installed. 1.6 The wellhead shalI be fitted with an approved sanitm~ seal and conduit protecting the wiring. After the water system is functional, the installer shall collect water samples and have them tested for bacteria and nitrates with satisfactory results. Copies of these test results shall be supplied to the engineer.
