d past compress/on. "Bearing" is quite
~u~ simplicity, a value of 5,000 psf for
and those live loads occurring 25% or more of
recommended for both the natural soil and for
~ fill as being prudent. This moderate value is in
.,~thin the normal constraints of providing a sufficient
±arge footing to anchor the structure and to reduce fabri-
cation difficulties. In that regard, a minimum width of
is recommended for continuous footings and 18" for isolated
footings. The depth of embedment should be not less ~han
feet for perimeter footings and not less than 2 feet for
interior footings within a crawl space. The depth of embed-
~ent is associated with the need to laterally restrain
footings and to insure that the angle of internal friction
is developed by confinement of the soil particles near the
base of the footing (the soils, while somewhat silty, are
considered to be non-cohesive in the critical state of
saturation.

Seismic considerations are probably not ~ignificant for this
site, as the structure is-understood to be resilient;
however, the soil mass is sufficiently robust to accept
dynamic loads to more than twice the ~a.~§~described
above. Due to ~e~t=f~e ~nsity~O~ %~i~l~s~this
area, one m~!f~ect a m~ch sharper, motion than
associated with the downtown Anchorage are .
.With regard to on-site sewage disposal, including eave
dramns and other items, we expect that layers of soil with
permeability similar to those associated with GW, SW, GP and
SP soils be encountered, as well the GM and SM soils, de-
fined by the disturbed samples; thus, we suggest a perco-
lation rate of 150 sq. feet pe~ equivalent bedroom as being
a reasonable design value for this area,---should
on-site
~aching fields be necessary to the work.
