Waiver Request, WR86-135
Dear Mr. Swanson:
Your request for a waiver the separation distance required between
the proposed sewer main extention (Campbell Airstip Road Sewer
Improvements) and the well on the subject lot has been granted.
This waiver is contingent upon the following:
1. The sewer main must be constructed of ductile iron and all joints
lying within 75 feet of the affected well must be equipped with
gaskets (U.S. Pipe "Field-Lok" or equivalent) and heat shrink
sleeves (Raychem or equivalent).
The manhole proposed to be constructed within 100 feet of the
well on the subject lot must be a special "hardened" manhole of the
type detailed in your July 1986 btueline drawings. Mechanical
joints and blind flanges are required and must be gasketed. A
"Type B" manhole will be required. This manhole must be equipped
with a water tight manhole cover.
The separation distances required between the well on the subject lot
and the aforementioned sewer components will be considered waived after
as-builts of the sewer line are received and approved by this department.
These as-builts should detail the completion of the two conditions above.

Dear Mr Morris,
Enclosed are design drawings for a proposed sanitary sewer extension
on Campbell Airstrip Road to serve Country Park Estates.
As noted on the drawings the proposed~sewer line is within the
protective well radi~s of tkree existing wells for properties on
Campbell Airstrip Road. Specifically the sewer line is 42 ~et
from the well on BLM Lot 15; 39 feet from the well on S½ of BLM
Lot 10 and about 40 feet from the well on N½ of BLM Lot 10. The
owner of that property will not permit us entry to locate the
well.
We hereby request a waiver of the minimum separation distance
between well and sanitary sewer on the above mentioned lots,
for the following reasons:
The ~roposed sanitary sewer is in the location specified by
the Municipal Public Works Dept. at 10 feet ccuth of centerline
o The sewer is designed with adequate safeguards to permit a
reduction in the minimum separation. We have specified
ductile iron pipe and special manholes with mechanical fittings.
o The extension of sanitary sewer is for the benefit of the public
and will %llow for abatement of future septic system failures
in the existing residences along the street as they occur.
We will comply with any additional design requirements you may
request.

I am the owner of Government Lot 15 Section 26, T13N,R3W
S.M., Anchorage, Alaska.
It has come to my attention that the proposed Sewer line
extention for Country Park Estates by Mr. Erv Terry, the Developer,
will come within 75 feet of my private well. In addition, there
may be a manhole that will be within 100 feet of my private well.
I understand that you have regulations which require the
developer to take certain precautions in such instances that go
beyond the normal acceptable standards for sewer line
installations.
Please accept this letter as my formal notice that I have no
~objections to the installation of the proposed sewer line as long
as the developer meets your official criteria for protecting my
private well, Pand allows for future hookup to the system for our-

Dear Mrs. Vandeburgh:
The lending ageno~'s request for sewer and water approval
on the subject property can not be approved at this time.
Before approval may be grante~, several items will need
to be completed.
{1)
Extend ~%e well casing abo~e ground level and fill
the pit with impervious type soil so that it drains
away from the well casing. An alternat& would be to
install a daylite drain fr°m the pit to the sloping
hi1 so that water could not stand in the pit.
(2) The septic tank must he uncovered to veri~y its
existence and also must be pumped to veri~y its
size.
(3) Percolation test must be perfo~e~ on the e~isting
sewer system so that we ean de~i~whether or not
it is adequate. See enclosed ln~tHuctions. Note:
~% upgrade may be necessary, because of the age of
the sewer system.
Monies may be escrowed if it is agreed that the abo~e

(3) Verify the tank size and its existence.
